My friend just went to the shop in London, she said that when you see the stuff on the hangers it just looks bland and mumsy not how it is portrayed in the catalogue. Having tried loads of stuff on the only things she would recommend are the Long Island Cardigan and the canvass beach bag. Other than that it was nothing special. How come though, we both said, that people go to the store and pay the full price when there is always a good discount going in the catalogue?

I used to go to the store as I was going past to see what looked good in real life as opposed to the catalogue where everything looked good and see what fit properly (often very different in the flesh) to save me the bother of sending stuff back, then come on here to get the best voucher code and order it online

she said it is such a strange position she is surprised anyone even goes into it!! and the clothes arent shown off properly. Was glad she went though as its stopped her fancying things in the catalogue

You can take your catalogue along to the store and get the discount. Plus if they don't have your size they order it for you and the P&P is free. But no, I don't work for them - entirely agree that quite a lot of the stuff looks really boring when you see it on the rails - and the fabrics are often thin and crumply even when its been put on a hanger (the kids' stuff somehow comes across better). Just shows how sticking something on a model etc can make it more glamourous.

a large part of Boden's success is down to clever pinning and tucking of badly fitting dresses around the model's slender frame!

I say this as someone who generally likes Boden but I have yet to order a dress which looks the same irl as it does in the catalogue.

I have always liked the knitwear and my friend said this is all that stood out in the shop, the rest looked like stuff you could get anywhere. I wonder why the shop is in such a strange place? there were only 3 people in it.

Is that the Hanger Lane shop? Dh and I drove past trying to find it once and didn't succeed, I think dh was secretly pleased.

yes, its in the middle of nowhere, you would think it would be somewhere like Brent Cross,I suppose theres method in their madness.

I think it is next to Park Royal tube (Piccadilly line) as you drive from London towards Oxford on the A40/M40. I have not yet managed to persuade DH to stop, or rather he has foiled every attempt (the last time he got his wallet stolen and we had to call the police instead; he seemed quite pleased about the change to our schedule).

Go to the Walton on Thames shop. It's miles nicer than the other one, and you can visit all the other shops too.

I usually look in shop then buy online, but I should think if you have proof of the code (eg an email or catalogue) they would honour it in the shop?

kittya · 07/04/2010 18:23

I think the shops just sound like showcases for the catalogue. My friend said the clothes are displayed very shodily. I was at Brent Cross today and was thinking it wouldve have been an ideal site, where the Mamas and papas store is.

I live very close to the shop at Park Royal, it is 5 mins from their factory which is in the industrial estate on the other side of the A40. The shop is CRAZY during sales, but very quiet at other times.

kittya · 07/04/2010 18:30

If I lived 5 mins from it, I would be first in the queque at sale time. It cant work financially, I assume everyone goes home and orders.
