Has spring sprung there yet? Here in the frozen north its not really arrived, what do I need to take? Am thinking jeans, mac, ballet pumps, converse type things, denim skirt, maybe heavy linen trews?

and some tops of course

I was there today and it was v hot. Jeans, t-shirts, light mac etc will be fine. Not linen if you're going to be using the tube a lot!

duckyfuzz · 06/04/2010 21:30

thanks janeite, dare I venture into dresses?

Yes, yes, yes.

Wear comfortable shoes. I wore comfortable shoes but UNcomfortable socks and I have got a blister.

LynetteScavo · 06/04/2010 21:36

janeite...surely "very hot" is pushing it a bit!

What will you be wearing with the dinim skirt? It's still only April!

I would still be in jeans/boots/ t-shirts/ v-neck swearter/mac/ light scarf. And I'd take ballet pumps, just incase it was warm.

duckyfuzz · 06/04/2010 21:37

oh dear we'll have 6yo DTs with us, will make sure they are well shoed!

janeite · 06/04/2010 21:38

Lynette - I was v hot. I kept stripping layers off!

Alouiseg · 06/04/2010 21:38

I'd take a slightly oversized jacket to wear over just about anything, roll the sleeves back slightly.

duckyfuzz · 06/04/2010 21:39

oh heck lynette, that's thrown me, am in boots up here still, but don't want to waste valuable luggage space!

I wore boots and wished for ballet shoes.

I think a dress, layered over a t-shirt with a denim jacket could be good. But I would prob wear opaques with it.

duckyfuzz · 06/04/2010 21:42

ok will wear my boots on the train, take opaques, buy denim jacket there

It is NOT hot but the tubes always are as is John Lewis who don't seem to have heard of air con.

I am still very def in boots and wooly socks, gloves and scarf. the weather is so changeable- cold one day and slightly spring the next.

It depends on what you are doing- if you are inside mostly and simply travelling by tube then shoes etc okay but if you intend to walk at all then wrap up- have you looked at met office 5 day weather forecast?

janeite · 07/04/2010 15:30

Yes - I spent a lot of time in John Lewis and it was boiling! And the tube was really, really warm.

What are you doing when you're there, Ducky?

SuSylvester · 07/04/2010 15:31

london is alaways warmer than the rest of the coutnry
irban livin innit

AbsOfCroissant · 07/04/2010 15:39

It's changeable and it could turn freezing again. I would recommend the following:

  • 2 bottoms (so trousers or skirts. I learnt the hard way not to take just one pair of "bottoms" when my trousers split on the first day of a weekend away and I had to buy a new pair, running around Cambridge with my derriere hanging out)
  • 3 tops (one for each day, but spare in case of spillage). You can bring more and layer, depending on the thickness
  • tights (if wearing skirt)
  • Jumper
  • coat
  • scarf/pashmina
  • shoes and socks, as appropriate
crumpette · 07/04/2010 16:40

Today was warm but still required an external coat ie a mac/trench or a blazer. Long sleeves still required too. Bring a few tops, a cardigan, a jacket, some simple jeans or trousers that can be worn with everything, ballet flats are handy, er and a scarf. I don't find I need to wear boots and socks or thick tights etc anymore as it is mostly warm and sunny, but who knows, it might snow tomorrow!

duckyfuzz · 07/04/2010 18:51

forecast is good, have a variety of layering options and a mac

I hear there are shops, so all is not lost if I do happen to take the wrong thing

janeite, we're doing everything!

thanks all for your advice
