Talk to me about hair straighteners

So are hair straighteners still a tool of choice, or have they entered the realms of desperately uncool?

I think I need to use them. My layers look icky because they sort of 'kink', and I think my hair would look lots better straightened. But I'm a bit worried it's yesterday's look. I thought you learned lot would know.

And if it isn't, what are the best sort of (affordable) straighteners? Ceramic? Tourmaline? Teflon?

Advice please, oh wise ones.

Hair straightners are still cool, but even if they weren't i would still buy them with my hair if i am wearing it down (which is hardly ever) it needs to be tamed.

I keep saying when it has dried naturally that i look like an 80's throwback!!

I will always recommend Ghd's they have lasted me for years, and you can get them cheaper off ebay, but mine are still going strong about 8 years later.

depends entirely on your hair. anything less than GHD's are a complete waste of money for me, whilst my friend bought hers fo £12 and the work perfectly well on her hair.

I have very curly hair and when I straighten it only GHD's will work. Mine were a freebie though as they were my sisters and stopped working, so she got new ones. I had them off her and put a new plug on. Presto!

Ha ha Ghd's rock

I agree that the over straightened look is a bit yesterday, but with the knowledge and experience of usng straighteners, we can flick, kick, smooth under for layers and curl for that night out.

But it has to be GHDs for me. I have had mine for years and they are still wonderful for me and my hair (although I do also use a conical wand)

Thanks all. I suspected GHDs might get a thumbs-up.

Poker straight hair is a bit WAG, but strighteners can do so much more than "that" look. I need to use them every second day as my layers just don't sit properly without them...I like them in a sort of flick sitting under my chin.

straight shniy hair doesn't go out of style but over straightened hair is a bit wag.

whether you can get away with less than ghds really depends on how thick, course your hair is - as in the more hair you have the more you need ghds!

ghds are quite aninvestment but they do pay their way. they are the best you can buy, give a lovely finish and they do last for years. i have even seen adverts down here for ghd repair services so they must be worth sticking with iyswim!
