Advice for Concert Wear for "mature" woman .

Hello
I am going to a jazz concert this week. Was going to wear all black (trousers and shell) with cream trench coat, but is cream ok for evening? I can buy something new but only have a few days to do so. Would a purple silk smocked top be nicer?
Any suggestions most appreciated.

Oh, and what sort of handbag? This I must buy new, mine will not do! I usually shove my bank card in my pocket! Would it be ok to not carry a handbag? I don't really want to wear my cream trench for some reason, so any coat suggestions would be great.

Hello, well I did find a really nice black satin type trench coat, but not sure if I am too old for it. Salesgirl choose it out for me, and suggested a scarf to tie in the purple top, or any colour if I go for the lack. With black pants and still to be purchased boots.

Please check it out and let me know, I realize most of you live in the UK, and fashions may be different than Canada. I am hopeless with clothing, and really could use any advice.

It is the jacket called Belted Sateen Anorak

TIA for any opinions.

Well, if anyone is out there...I did not buy above jacket, it just didn't quite feel like "me". I don't think the waist was long enough.

I did buy a black jacket, and a nice scarf with blues, greens and metallic gold.

Wonders why I didn't get any replies at all.

I am also wondering why you didn't get any replies, and I think it may be because we tend not to get dressed up for concerts etc over here? For example I go to quite a few concerts - and to the theatre a lot - and I usually just wear (smart) jeans or something else fairly casual..........or maybe I am just very very scruffy?

mmmm think that generally we are much more casual over here than we used to be in the "good old days". I used to wear a suit to work every day. Now I don't have one.

Hello
Thank-you for your replies. After I read your replies, I phoned the venue and she said business dress but jeans were definitely ok. She said she wore jeans there to see Annie Lennox. So I am relieved, as I wanted to actually wear some skinny jeans or buy some skinny black pants pants rather than black dress pants, but wasn't sure.
She said it depends a lot of the performer, but for Buddy Guy, people will be in everything from jeans to dressy.

See, your answers very helpful to me! I would not have called them up to ask had you not explained, and their web site says business dressy.
Thank-you, I am off to buy some skinny pants and new boots, and feeling much more sure of myself.

PS. My new jacket will go better with casual pants/jeans and the purple silk top is also versatile, I have worn it with jeans.

Glad to hear we were of some help, and that you feel happier about your outfit. I know I tend to feel better slightly under rather than over dressed. Enjoy the concert!

Update! We had a great time, and most people we dressed very casually. I ended up wearing new black jeans (not skin tight but a nice narrow fit) and black boots. We had a great time too. It got cold and we had snow flurries, so am very glad I didn't wear dress pants, as they are a summer weight and I would have froze afterwards when walking around outside.
