Ok, so from the thread about "fashion rules", I have learned that I've been committing a faux pas by wearing black riding boots with boot cut indigo jeans, and black shoes with anything other than black/ grey skirts or trousers.

So what should I wear with jeans if too cold for trainers?
And what should my shoes match? the dress? tights? coat? handbag..?

if I buy these what can I wear them with?

Also, I have never owned a comfy pair of high heeled shoes. I have quite a few pairs, but none of them are comfortable, so I always end up wearing boring, flat shoes. Maybe the problem is I have never spent enough? Can anyone recommend smart, medium to high heeled shoes which I could wear all day at work and still come back home with all 10 toes..?

I'd wear those with a blindfold personally... Or possibly a paper bag?

tethersend · 02/04/2010 20:03

Sorry... I have these which are very comfortable... these are the most comfortable heels I have ever worn though

moondog · 02/04/2010 20:04

Plain brown boots with a chunky heel good with jeans.

High heels can be comfy if they have a thicker heel or a platform. Those shoes you linked to are a bit ceramics teacher in trendy comprehensive circa 1989.

Best thing to do is look through a good website.
Office has 10000s but some are pretty way out.
John Lewis is excellent.
Clarks surprisingly on the ball recently. I got a fantastic 40s style pair of red suede shoes with high chunky heels there which are comfy and gorgeous. Sorry, can't link as on very slow laptop.

tethersend, I must admit, I was expecting a comment like this about el naturalista ;)

OK, thinking about these for work. any better...?

Better. Although I prefer the other colours to black.

moondog · 02/04/2010 20:09

I've got those Duende, as they were recommended on MN.
They are really nice, smart and comfy.
I wear them with a smart trouser suit.

duende · 02/04/2010 20:13

What colour do you have them in, Moondog?

And tether, can you help me with this colour business? Black will be fine with trouser suits. But what about sandals or wedges to wear with summer clothes? What should I be matching them to...?

OP posts:
moondog · 02/04/2010 20:24

Black

I've just bought these to wear in the summer-in green.

tethersend · 02/04/2010 20:25

Ah, well I may not be the best person for that as I tend to go for colour mixes which break the rules

For summer, I find tan goes with a lot, and I try and avoid black shoes where possible.

Red shoes work surprisingly well with many an outfit...

Without knowing what you'll be wearing, it's hard to advise what to match to TBH...

duende · 02/04/2010 20:31

Moondog, these are absolutely gorgeous. I wish I could wear such high heels

tethersend, thanks. this is the answer I was hoping to hear/ read - red and brown with many things and unusual colour mixes can work.

I'm hoping to buy a couple of new pairs and wear them with as many outfits as possible.

thank you ladies!

Duende, they are really comfy-honestly.
What also helps is straps across the top so all the gladiator type things in the shops at present will be pretty comfy too.

duende · 02/04/2010 20:55

I think I need to go to town and try some on. Will let you know if I've bought something!

I wear skinny jeans tucked into knee high boots when it's too cold for trainers. For the school run (which is a 15 m walk) I wear Cat Anna boots (a MN tip).
I dislike boot cut jeans with most things except maybe a decent pair of baseball type (see Ash, or Kurt Geiger for examples).
