I am looking for that elusive thing - a daytime dress to suit me.

I would love something tea dressy, flattering and that could be dressed up or down.

I am 5'2, 18 on top (big boobs) and 16 on bottom. I've lost half a stone and still working on it.

Am I deluding myself?

It's hard to say what would suit you without seeing a photo, but definitely go for tea dresses. I am 16-18 too, although taller than you and I live in dresses. The trick is not to chicken out and wear leggings underneath

What about something like this or this or this?

CoffeeMum · 02/04/2010 11:22

Have you thought about wrap dresses? I think they are very flattering to curves - i live in them, and i'm a size 14. They mean you can have a waist, even if you go out at the boobs and hips.

I tend to think leggings underneath are still a good thing though...they make dresses far more practical for daytime, especially if you're dealing with small children, eg.down on the floor playing with them. Plus warmer in our delightful British climate!

suiledonne · 02/04/2010 14:43

Thanks. I haven't tried any wrap dresses - very limited shopping potential where I am so looking online.

I like the floral dresses

here

but I think I am fooling myself.

You are 35 not 20 (gives self stern look)

here

luciemule · 02/04/2010 14:48

or this?

fatzak · 02/04/2010 14:52

Am very similar size to you and looking for a dress for a wedding - must have ordered and sent back 15 over the last two weeks

The most flattering one I have found so far was from M&S www.marksandspencer.com/Portfolio-Slash-Ruffle-Shift-Dress/dp/B0036J8UDG?ie=UTF8&qid=12702161 97&categoryNodeID=42967030&ref=sr19&page=&node=72625031&sr=1-9&mnSBrand=core&rh=

Know it's a bit boring but it might be the one I have to go for!

fatzak · 02/04/2010 14:53

Whoops, not what I meant at all

Love those Dorothy Perkins ones by the way tethersend

tethersend · 02/04/2010 15:42

What kind of dress are you looking for, fatzak? You don't seem too happy with the M&S one...

birdsandblossoms · 02/04/2010 16:03

there is an Asda dress i am very interested in on their website Black with a hold you in Tummy panel it has good reviews and is only £25

fatzak · 02/04/2010 16:40

I really wanted this but it was not very flattering although I may try it on in a larger size when I dare to brave the Trafford Centre on Tuesday!

Also have ordered this but again doesn't really look that good!

Lovethis too but not sure if it'll get here in time with the holidays and can't be bothered to get to a store!!

By the way, I don't usually shop in either John Lewis or Laura Ashley and found all those dresses through other people's posts on here!!!!

suiledonne · 02/04/2010 17:00

Love the Boden ones lucie, especially the first one but a flattering knee length on a model is very unflattering length on 5'2 and I hate having to get things altered.

fatzak I LOVE the Kaliko grey and pink one .

When I have to shop for a wedding or special occasion I usually buy Monsoon dresses.

I have cgi.ebay.co.uk/MONSOON-TEQUILA-SILK-SPOT-ORIANE-DRESS-SIZE-12-WEDDING_W0QQitemZ330419126183QQcategor yZ63861QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp4340.m263QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DDLSL%252BSIC%26its%3DI%26itu%3DUCI%252BI A%252BUA%252BIEW%252BFICS%252BUFI%26otn%3D10%26po%3D%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D8931753469862057143 this one in a different colour and it is very flattering.

I love Monsoon dresses but have never ever found one to fit! Have great bust problems with most of their dresses. I think the only Monsoon item I own is a summer jersey top and ended up buying something like a 20 just to get my boobs in!!

tethersend · 02/04/2010 17:28

How about something like this with a floral scarf or pink accessories, fatzak?

tethersend · 02/04/2010 17:36

Nice tea dress here

tethersend · 02/04/2010 17:38

Good for wedding

Shaz10 · 02/04/2010 17:38

Watching this thread with interest. Am of very similar measurements and trying to find something for my son's christening! Thanks to all who are helping.

tethersend · 02/04/2010 17:51

My favourite tea dress so far

suiledonne · 02/04/2010 17:58

I love the Holly Willoughby floral one tethersend

I had already spotted it.

My sister reckons though that if you aren't the exact proportions it is designed for it would be a disaster. What do you think?

The review says not for small busts. I am DD so have that one covered

OP posts:
tethersend · 02/04/2010 18:02

I think it would be good with a belt, TBH.

I say get it

suiledonne · 02/04/2010 18:09

The Holly Willoughby dress I like is £49 on Very which when I convert is €55 but on the Irish website it is €72 - that is so unfair.

OP posts:
suiledonne · 02/04/2010 18:11

How did I miss the Jasmine Guinness one?

It is fab and I'd say more flattering too.

fatzak · 02/04/2010 18:19

Love love the Bravissimo one and the Teatro one tethersend - should be able to get the one from Very before we go on Weds pm but not sure about the Bravissimo one!!

Off to try and order the one from Very right now Thanks

fatzak · 02/04/2010 18:21

No no no the pink one is out of stock in both possible sizes. Grrrrr.

fatzak · 02/04/2010 18:29

Have just ordered another 3 from Very so there must be something I like! Thanks for that tethersend - have had a Very account for ages and just didn't think of looking!!
