Anyone remember a thread at the beginning of the year about not buying any new clothes this year?

I think I posted on it, but then people started buying clothes and as that was what I was trying not to do, I stopped posting.

Well I haven't bought myself any clothes at all so far in 2010 and am quite pleased with myself . Although I need it to warm up soon as my boots are in need of either being totally mended, or I need new ones

that;s fantastic !! i managed a few weeks... but have most definitely bought far, far less than before.. for me it was almost always buying a top/tunic/bag /something everytime i went to the supermarket.. or going to buy , say, school trousers for DS and having to buy myself a fab new top whilst there..

i do thikn v v carefuly about purchases and all the (few )things I have bought have been to go wih stuff i already have and i have been mixing and matching better

i also have been through my wardrobe, given lots to charity, mended a few things and made sure I am wearing more than the same 4 things !

i am definitely on the way to buying nothign!!

Well done you! I didn't buy in Jan and, having filled in the gaps for spring and summer am now not buying in April either.

Like Lulu, I usually pick up and bit here and a bit there, plus a big online shop every few weeks, most of which goes back. This year I have been mixing and matching a lot more and making the most of what I already have, then filling in the gaps when I genuinely don't have stuff.

I have also discovered eBay. My credit card is now healthy again so progress has been made

NoahAndTheWhale · 01/04/2010 14:05

I used to find that I would slip things into the trolley at the supermarket and pretend to myself it was "just shopping".

I am pretty sure I have enough summer clothes as well - will see how long I can last with no spending

I didn't post on the original thread but I haven't bought any new clothes for myself either (So far).

Does it still count if your Husband buy's things for you? I got some lovely things brought back this week (Surprise gifts) from the States.

Although, what with our Holidays coming up in a few weeks, I think I'll have to dip out and pick up some new bits

lumpsdumps · 01/04/2010 18:32

I haven't bought any new clothes though I have bought 2 new pairs of shoes for the summer, am at the moment wearing the same uniform to work and usually the same kind of clothes for the weekend

I only bought a couple of things that I needed because we were going skiing. 2 long sleeved t-shirts from Asos and a pair of winter-lined trousers from Craghoppers - hardly frivolous (or indeed stylish) purchases

Apart from that nothing, and I hoping to make it through most of this month without buying anything more.

LetThemEatCake · 01/04/2010 23:08

doing nothing but!!!!

It's retail-aholics. You will swoon. How do you think we get through 2 threads a month??

new one here

NoahAndTheWhale · 01/04/2010 23:17

My thread is being hijacked by people trying to tempt us to spend money .

Alibaba those are essential items which even I feel pass muster.

Am looking at the linked thread and see someone popped into Asda to get a sandwich and came out with a dress. It is a slippery slope...
