My wedding dress..yet again!

Have posted on here several times as I will be getting married in June and still haven't decided what to wear. Just to put you in the picture, it's just me and DP and 2 witnesses. DP will be in grandad shirt and chinos (or possibly shorts!) so I don't want to be too dressed up iyswim. Also, we are going straight down to London by train, so again, don't want to look overdressed. I have found dress, which I've bought and is lovely, but is slightly too long. So, I will attempt to shorten it and see how it looks then. Also, am thinking of a long black monsoon skirt, with a crinkle top and black linen waterfall cardigan (I wear black most of the time). As no one knows about our wedding (we're keeping it a secret until afterwards) I can't ask anyone in RL to help me (witneses are old fogey blokes who wouldn't be able to help me if they wanted to!) so I'm really hoping MN can help.

I'd be very grateful if you could give me your opinions on my ideas, or suggest alternatives. Thanks very much.

Does it have to be a maxi dress? Are you open to a bit more colour?

Surprise · 31/03/2010 17:56

Well, I much prefer longer skirts, as I do tend to be a bit "hippyish" generally - def not a neat and tidy suit-type person I'm afraid! I don't mind colour, but prefer jade/turquoise/purples. Reds/oranges/yellows really don't suit me. I think ideally I would love a black linen dress, almost to the floor with a square neckline, with a big silver brooch of some sort and a linen cardy/wrap. Would also love to wear Doc Martens with it, but think I'm probably too old now (40s) . Not your average wedding dress, certainly!

Any good? or here?

Surprise · 31/03/2010 18:42

the blue one is lovely, not sure if it's a bit too dressy though. The black one would look awful on me, as I'm a bit top heavy, so can't do high necks or ruffles! I'm heading into town tomorrow, so any more high street suggestions would be gratefully received!

Can't help thinking that dark blue might be softer than black - especially for a wedding? This is lovely.

French Connection have this dress in black or white

Wow! Can't believe that so many of you have bothered to search on my behalf. There are some really gorgeous dresses there, so will definitely check some of them out tomorrow. I especially love the all saints one - but it is out of my price bracket unfortunately . Thanks again everyone, and if you find any more, please feel free to let me know!
