Sam Cam - am I the only one who thinks she dresses rather dowdily

everyone is wetting themselves over the fact that she's such a style icon and wears jeans.

I personally don't think she's blazing any trail. She dresses pretty normally and in fact, with the fab figure she's got she could look a whole heap more glam and fashionable than she does.

Couldn't agree more. She also has the dowdiest most unflattering hair cut I have ever seen.

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 29/03/2010 20:54

Do we expect politicians' wives to be glam and fashionable?

"pretty normal" is a welcome relief.

SixtyFootDoll · 29/03/2010 20:57

She always looks nice, but nothing special.

i dont like her hair
makes her look like that dog - god what breed is it with thelong face and droopy ears

SixtyFootDoll · 29/03/2010 20:59

like the dog from dukes of hazard?

Miggsie · 29/03/2010 21:00

I think it's nice that they patently are not spending a fortune of time and money in hairdressers and things. They are mums, so it looks like they may actually spend time with their kids. Why should they be glamorous or style leaders?

Although "politicians wife" has a job description, it isn't paid.
At the end of the day they are wives and mums and women who look after a family.

Pennies · 29/03/2010 22:55

It's got nothing to do with who she is, just that all the press seem to think she's our very own Anna Wintour or summat.

OP posts:
MaryMotherOfCheeses · 29/03/2010 23:13

I get you.

The media are easily excited though, aren't they.

LynetteScavo · 29/03/2010 23:18

Well the press would get excited....remember what Cheri used to wear?

Bonsoir · 30/03/2010 08:12

I think she plays safe for the public eye - the British are very quick those who overdress or overspend on clothes.

I actually think she does very well, given the constraints she is under. I would rather she felt able to spend more freely and wear better cut and more glamorous clothes à la Carla, but the media and the public would come down on her like a ton of bricks if she did.

Bonsoir · 30/03/2010 08:12

very quick to criticise

traceybath · 30/03/2010 08:14

She does need a haircut but I think she dresses pretty well.

fishie · 30/03/2010 08:17

yes hair makes her look mournful.

none of them are being pictured in an nice, posed way though, poor things are reportage.

Pennies · 30/03/2010 08:40

Why would she get lambasted if she did a Carla? Because of ££? You don't have to spend a fortune to look elegant. Michelle O manages to dress beautifully and loads of her stuff is high st.

OP posts:
Bonsoir · 30/03/2010 08:44

I think Michelle O manages her PR very carefully indeed and that her image is a lot more expensive to maintain than the public might imagine.

the spotty dress looked like she was attending fancy dress as a conservative politicians wife.

she should cut her hair adn so should you riven!

Bumperlicious · 30/03/2010 08:54

Remember the uproar about how much it cost though? Wasn't it bespoke?

BariatricObama · 30/03/2010 08:54

the spotty dress is m&s

Pennies · 30/03/2010 09:10

Exactly Riven, she dresses like a normal woman, not a fashionista. Get yer hair cut.

Officially it was M&S but they had sold out of it completely and there wasn't one in her size available so she had one specially made up. As you do.

OP posts:
BariatricObama · 30/03/2010 09:13

really pennies? funny it still looked like it didn't fit her

Michelle Obama wears a lot of designer stuff. She's pretty much always in Jimmy Choos and wears a lot of Thakoon, Jason Wu etc none of which is cheap.

She does wear some high street I agree but I think her clothing budget is pretty high.

niminypiminy · 30/03/2010 10:34

Wasn't that M&S dress carefully chosen to project an image of 'ordinary high-street shopping woman not loaded toff'? As far as I know in RL (ie not party conferences) she wears very expensive clothes indeed, as you would if you were director of a company that sells £800 bags. I think it was a cynical ploy and a bit of game-playing oneupwomanship on Sarah Brown (who wore designer to the Labour conference). It's all part of that 'ordinary Dave' schtick which is so fake, they're absolutely loaded and come from the upper class (she's part of the Astor family) but are pretending they're just like you and me.

sorry, rant over. I loathe her hair, too, makes her look drippy. (Sorry, Riven, I'm sure you're not drippy at all.)
