Good length for smart, red nails

I want to paint my nails a lovely red but they're quite long at the moment and nails always look longer when they're painted anyway. I don't want them to look tacky.

So - is there a guide for how short they should be so that they look classy but not stubby?

I may be a bit stupid but always find it difficult to judge until I've put the varnish on and then it's too late!

I think just when the nail tip is about 1mm longer than the fingertip. I've got a long day of enforced doing nothing on Thurs and I'll be painting mine that colour then too!

Lucky you!

I only paint mine red when they're really short. I think they look really tarty otherwise.
