Have you ever been inside a Hollister store?

What's the deal with this store?? It looked like a house from the outside, had a long long queue to get in, and from what you can see through the window, it's pitch black inside apart from spotlights shining on the mannequins, wtf? Why would anyone buy an item of clothing in the dark? (although seen many a young girl who looks like she did!)

Anyway that aside, what's good in there? Didn't go in due to humungous line.

I just walk right on past

far too poncey for me (and I love to shop)

I expect it is manned by supercilious staff who look down their nose at you if are over the age of 25 or < shock, horror > wear anything larger than a size 6

SheWillBeLoved · 28/03/2010 15:52

I went in one for the first time a few weeks ago. I thought I was on a ghost train right to be honest. Walking round in single file, with lights shining on scarily thin mannequins. Nothing but a load of hype, to mask the fact that the clothes are mostly shite, and way overpriced.

SheWillBeLoved · 28/03/2010 15:52

ride, not right!

LittleBunnyFooFoo · 28/03/2010 15:56

They make you walk in single file? haha! how poncy

Sounds like I've not missed much

Just slightly cheaper Abercrombie and Fitch, innit? Not worth it. I used to buy A&F stuff when I visited the US but the shops got so offputting I stopped - also the UK stores are horrendously overpriced compared to the US ones.

Finbar · 28/03/2010 16:15

The shops do smell delicious though!

youcantlabelme · 28/03/2010 16:28

DD(15) and I went to the one in Westfield, and I was laughing all the time I was in the shop at the ponciness of it all.

We had to queue for 45 mins before it opened and then when we came out there was still a long queue as I belioeve they only let in a certain amount of customers at one time.

The staff are all so young, good looking and trendy - I almost expected to be asked to leave the store for not adhering to their good looks policy!

hifi · 28/03/2010 16:30

its too dark and noisy

willali · 28/03/2010 16:38

hell on earth

KnitterInTheNW · 28/03/2010 16:52

I haven't attempted the trafford centre one, but 'had' to go into one in NY for a friend while I was on holiday, and had to really concentrate so that I didn't fall over in the dark!

Batteryhuman · 28/03/2010 16:54

God no, I'm at least 20 years too old and don't have DDs. Over priced uniform for what used to be called Sloanes isn't it?

janeite · 28/03/2010 17:04

No and never heard of it either.

Milliways · 28/03/2010 17:08

DS & I queued at Westfield in the Feb Half Term as he wanted to see inside (all his friends wear the clothes).

We looked at the sale stuff - nothing any good. I offerred to buy him a Polo as he liked them, as a treat, but he said they were waaaay to expensive and not to worry - but Thank You very Much

I got him a Quicksilver Hoodie in the Debenhams sale & a Tshirt from Burtons in the end, for less than the price of one Hollister Polo.

SuSylvester · 28/03/2010 17:10

oh yes
wassup

we haev had some threads about this

cocolepew · 28/03/2010 17:13

I went into A&F in Ny and came out traumatised. It was too dark, too noisy and too crowded. The military probably look at it and get tips for Guantanamo Bay.

SuSylvester · 28/03/2010 17:14

lol @guantanano bay
i hate the smell

NorbertDentressangle · 28/03/2010 17:16

Proof once again that I obviously live in the armpit of nowhere as I've never seen (nor heard of) Hollister

stressheaderic · 28/03/2010 17:22

Went in the Trafford Centre one last year. Dark and pretentious, and seemed to just sell hoodies and baggy shorts, didn't really get it.

Went past the one in Liverpool a few weeks back. Two deliciously young and sexy male models in bare chests 'modelling' outside the entrance. Which was nice.

tulpe · 28/03/2010 17:49

what is the deal with the bare chested young men on the steps of the store? I am clearly far older than their target market as all I could think of was "bless them, they must be freezing"

Alouiseg · 28/03/2010 17:57

Abercrombie & Fitch own Hollister.

"people were approached on the basis of their looks alone to ask if they would like to work there . . ."

Didn't A&F get into big trouble a while ago when they took on a beautiful young lady? They employed her to work on the shop floor, meeting and greeting customers etc and then moved her to stock room duties only when they realised that she had a prosthetic arm.

NorbertDentressangle · 28/03/2010 18:19

heres a link to the story

catinthehat2 · 28/03/2010 18:19

Here's why I have very little time for Abercrombie & Fitch and subsidiaries.

And the marketing reminds me of the "Joe Bloggs" phenomenon some years ago. Very soon only 8 year old girls will be seen dead in this stuff.

janeite · 28/03/2010 18:23

It sounds vile. So glad that my daughters don't want to buy this crap.
