When someone not know for their style and beauty compliments your outfit

Is it somehow diminished?

I got a compliment on my outfit from our lollypop lady this morning. She would not necessarily be known for her style. I felt this to somewhat diminish the compliment and made me question the stylishness of my outfit.

I know what you are saying, but without knowing what you were wearing I cant decide if you were infact looking daggy or if the said lollypop lady has been watching Gok and has become more style aware !

How shallow

I look like shite but I can recognise stylishness when I see it you cheeky mare.

I just can't attain it.

I'd still take it as a compliment.

She might aspire to look as good as you did but cannot for reasons of age (if she is significantly older than you), finances or simply not having a clue where to start

She might be wearing Ben de Lisi under her Lollipop coat y'know ;)

Oh but this whole style and beauty thing is shallow, thats the point.

Would you take relationship compliments from John Terry seriously? Or slimming tips from someone morbidly obese?

Not sweeping about lollipop ladies. Just this particular one is not in the stylish category. That is not to say she is not very nice because in fact she is lovely and nice and kind. Just not stylish.

And maybe she just can appreciate a nice outfit (it was skinny jean/tunic type outfit).

I think I would not question outfit if Kate Moss had said it. And would have worn it daily for a year.

I just think it is quite arrogant to assume the you yourself are stylish and the lollipop lady isnt.

If you're watching people cross the road all day, you probably appreciate the ones who dress well.

I couldn't care less what people wear when they come to my house (and often don't notice, since I'm talking to them or trying to cook) but when I'm out in the street where there are lots of people, I like seeing ones that are well dressed in whatever way - it brightens things up.

Arrogant or truthful?

There is a difference. Just because I say someone is not stylish does not mean I am being arrogant. I would take rude and shallow, but not arrogant.

OP_ I rarely look stylish, these days.. In the past I have been very funny about the fabric in which I self adorn. lack of giving a damnation isn't the same as haviong no taste at all.

When I joined my gym I was astounded by the very big lasy on the desk, probably a size 22+. After my induction she came over for a chat and sadid 'most people wonder why they employ me, it's becuase of the fact I have dropped 6 sizes in a year'

So yes, I would take diet advice from someone morbidly obese. When we look at soemone in teh street and think blimey they are big, which we all do I imagine, we never know if they were even bigger alst week and are working like Hell to move forwards.

You are not being arrogant LadyB, and yes you probably looked stylish ... take it as a compliment !

(But absolutely someone commenting I am not stylish would be truthful abovce arrogant, I know it to be true. I can pull it out the bag when I want, just never for the school run- and anyway my school lot are professionals, I swear we're the only state school where you can get botox and a fake tan between the drop off point and school gates!

(Am actually having ishooes with local PCSO who ignores the merc brigade then yells at ds3's snu taxi for doing a rapid drop outside school, arrraaagggggh- maybe I need to persuade the LEA to upgrade to a Cayenne LOL)

I had to laugh today actually as threeseparate women approached one poor lass to see if they could have trheir ds's after footy as they all ahd gym / hair / goodness knows what.

Every time she said 'no he's a bit ill so at home today' and they went into panic.

I would dearly love a big sign flashing 'get a sense of priority' to wave but you know, tyhose boutiques must be kept afloat (where are they btw???? Haven't exactly seen loads in N and Cw after all)

Actually Mum went there and then we took her to the Big City at Christmas; she now tells everyone to skip B and head for C, much better she thinks.

Have just decided after school experiences that I will prmiose to commit my vote to anyone promising an extra tax on heels over 4" high if worn on school run.

Love the heels tax! All totally impractical clothes to be subjected to extra VAT .
