Toddler just walking - shoe confusion?

My dd is 17 months and can now totter pretty much across a room, although she only does it when she really wants something the other side (eg remote control, favourite teddy, piece of chocolate cake). She only has slipper socks and I feel I need to get her some proper shoes. So went to Clarks but came back with a pair of really hard-soled proper walking shoes and she finds them quite hard to walk in - have I done it too early? Sorry if everyone else knows this, but at what stage should I encourage her to wear these shoes - and if it's too early, what should she wear in betweeen, while she learns to walk properly - she gets wet toes in the park!

I am bit that they sold them to you before she was properly walking. I'd take them back and get some cruising shoes if she is going to do lots of tottering outside. Now summers coming you might get away with some shoo shos (lovely soft leather slippers) but you would have to pay for them again rather than getting your money back.

I've been told to wait until both mine were properly walking for about 6 weeks before moving on to proper shoes

Bloody Clarks are a total menace and no longer the home of good children's footwear advice.

Don't let her wear those shoes for at least six weeks or until she is walking properly, not tottering.

Shoo shoos or snuggle feet or inchblues are all she needs now - snuggle feet are cheap which means that if they get knackered outside it's not the end of the world

Thank you for this - I knew something was a bit wrong but I wasn't quite sure what counted as proper walking and I guess because dd is late walker and i've been so excited that she has taken steps at all, I've rather jumped the gun. Have kept receipt and not let her wear outside so I'll take them back pronto and get some cruising shoes. Thank you ladybiscuit and witch
