Sunglasses - can anyone recommend a pair/brand that are functional firstly?

I really need a pair of sunglasses, but not so much 'fashion' ones as ones that have all the UVA/B protection etc. and good coverage. Just been oggling some ray-bans but are they actually good, or just trendy? Another pair I saw were these 'true colour' ones but I am clueless. Thanks

I think Oakley ones are pretty good with all the high tech science bit. The guy trying to flog dh some the other day made it sound like that. Dh is a proper Oakley fan tho so the sales guy needn't have tried so hard!

I like Tom Ford ones but they are £££ but good protection and very lightweight.

I always wear wayfarers and I find them excellent - I can't remember when I last had a different make

cannot beat a Rayban for quality of lens. the light is so much different in a RB, you can see indoors in them aswell as block the light.

i worked in optics for 10 years, nothing imo ever beat them. i couldnt wear them - ive got a prescription - you pay for the lens in a RB not the frame - the lens technology is second to none, so no point in buying them to get the lens changed! but they are the best (functional) sunspec on the market i think. they also look fab!

DH is very light sensitive, and he wears Oakley half jackets as he likes to be able to interchange the lenses to best suit the intensity of the sun. Pricey, but he wears them virtually all the time he is outside buildings, every day, and they last for years
