Bare Minerals foundation powder - am I doing it right?

So I finally got on the mineral makeup bandwagon two years late and bought some Bare Minerals foundation. I have a kabuki brush (not theirs, I didn't buy the kit, this is a Ms Makeup one). I dispense, swirl, tap, buff. But it doesn't really look like enough. HOw many times do other mineral users tend to apply before they're done? I hate thick foundation and want pretty light coverage but one lot of buffing doesn't really do it.

Also, my skin's v oily and since I started using this, it actually feels greasier by the end of the day, like it's responding to the different foundation somehow. Is this normal?

i probably wasn't doing it right but it always made me look too matte and didn't give enough coverage.

I have the bare minerals kit and have 3 products: foundation, warmer and mineral veil. After applying each of these I am done, and only need a thin layer or each.

I also have a primer with mine but I don't always use it - just gives a smooth base. Do you think something like this could help you?

Probably, Jewels. I was being a tightfist when I bought it, so I didn't shell out for primer! She did say a good moisturise first would help.

I think I touch my face too much during the day, too, which doesn't help oiliness. But that's a long-seated habit and I can't see it changing.

What on earth is a Mineral Veil?

I am not sure really but it looks like translucent powder - think it just helps the foundation to last longer.

I wear Laura Mercier mineral foundation powder and I find that a thicker layer works better for me - I don't bother swirling the brush, just dip it in the powder and then tap. I like a bit more coverage so that works best for me. Have you experimented with putting more layers on?

I use a couple of layers of the powder foundation , touch up with concealer then use the warming one then mineral veil.I tend to use thin layers and layer up for more coverage and to even out skin tone. I'm really pleased with it and it stays put all day.

mamagoblin I too get what you mean re oily skin. I find that the foundation kind of gets an almost shininess to it after a while, but i end up reapplying later on in the day. I have tried many of the minerals on the market but always come back to this one. I recently purchased a laura geller balacne and brighten backed mineral powder from QVC to give it a try, so far so good, but IMO i am still testing it out so always revert back to my bare minerals in the end up. SOmetimes if I put too much on it can cake in my lines and around my nose, I haven't ever tried the primer but heard good things of it.
As my skin is fairly oily in the first place i tend to apply my minerals to bare face in the morning without any moisturiser, sometimes this can make the finish different and not prone to oiling up by lunchtime. HTH

The Bare Minerals stuff has mica in (shimmery) so I think some of the shine is shimmer! Which should make me feel glam rather than greasy.

I did try applying more layers and I think it looks a lot better with about three times as much as the woman who sold it to me advised. But I was being distracted by DS having a mardy, so I might have missed something.

Will try applying without moisturiser on oily bits, tomorrow.

I was advised to try a layer of the mineral veil underneath the foundation in oily spots, and this works quite well in avoiding shininess. Still use the mineral veil/warmth etc as usual, just that extra bit of grease busting in my t zone!
