Statement necklace

I've just bought these gladiator sandals which I plan to wear with a nice plain black dress (amongst other things) but would like to co-ordinate the shoes with a funky necklace (but not too bling).

I'll spend up to £50, but I'd prefer to pay less as my DS is likely to yank and chew on it!

Any ideas?

Quite like this but it's a bit on the spenny side...

this is similar and nearer budget!

Moneyspider · 25/03/2010 07:33

better and in budget

Remember when ordering from Etsy, ask the seller to write "Goods to be customs cleared by importer" on the package in clear lettering. Otherwise, the UK carrier will pay UK customs duty on your behalf, exercise a dubious lien over the goods and charge you a fecking admin fee to release

Moneyspider · 25/03/2010 11:41

Alternatively, this is cheap as chips and more of a statement

On the coins theme they have loads at All Saints

What about this style here?

I know it's per una, which makes me want to vomit slightly, but it looks fairly baby-proof, and would look great with black.

JackieNo · 25/03/2010 15:32

This is 'busier' than the others, but a good price. Might be too attractive to your DS though.

birdsandblossoms · 25/03/2010 15:55

Etsy.com have some amazing handmade ones

StepfordWeeble · 25/03/2010 21:38

Ooh, I'd given up on this after a couple of days - thought I'd killed my own thread! . Thanks all.

I love the Etsy one, Moneyspider, and thanks for the shipping tip. The others are cool too but I had something quite drapey in mind and I'd prefer something without medallions. Am now off happily rifling through millions of Etsy possibilities.... may be gone some time...

I'm also having a quick look at Per Una, PlumSykes...

Bit of a hijack, sorry, can you explain the Etsy thing? I've always wanted to order from there but have been to scared of customs. Do I get charged at all if they write that on it then?

birdsandblossoms · 26/03/2010 11:54

i bought a necklace last month for 25$ and paid 10$ for postage then got charged £11.97 just to collect the thing because of customs charged . It completely ruined that transaction for me seller couldnt have cared less she said she was not "breaking the law" by writing gift on envelope i didnt even ask her to but that is what they normally write i have bought lots of things but that was the first time that happened

Moneyspider · 26/03/2010 12:02

I too got stung. I was pissed off because naturally wasn't given any opportunity to pay the VAT etc- courier just pays on your behalf and then levies an admin charge.

The sellers are largely artisans and can't do anything- they are just the exporter. The payment of duty is the importer's responsibility (you, the buyer). So, I spoke to UK customs and excise who said that if you write "Goods to be customs cleared by the importer" on the packaging, it won't happen anymore. Three transactions since, absolutely fine!

If the goods are of a high enough value to attract duty, they will write to you with a form and you'll pay that way, Hasn't happened yet.

I love Etsy and am delighted to be able to use again.

I think [http://www.martinewesterlondon.co.uk/_product_43254/BLUE_SAFARI_TRIO_DISC_NECKLACE this] is gorgeous, and in vogue. Also, have just had a newsletter from them If you go to the home page first, they are giving away a really nice studded belt FREE. not sure for how long.

undecidered · 26/03/2010 14:06

sorry this I can not get the hang of these links!!!

llamafarmer · 26/03/2010 18:04

Thanks moneyspider, I have had a huge charge before which was for children's clothing and was clearly marked so shouldn't have been charged at all. They refunded the charge, but not the fee which was higher than the charge anyway! It's put me off ever since, I had had no problems before either.
I might try this then
