So, if you had that Sam Cam M&S spotty dress, what would you do?

This one
I bought it ages ago (before Sam Cam wore hers). Loved it. Wore it lots. Got lots of compliments.

Then Sam Cam got hers and was photographed wearing it at Tory conference. Then all I got every time I wore it was "oooh, don't you look very Sam Cam!" .

I haven't worn it since

Would you give up a lovely dress just because you didn't want to be mistaken for the wife of the Tory party leader? Or would you wear it with pride?

fishie · 23/03/2010 08:34

i'd put it away for a while.

RamblingRosa · 23/03/2010 08:41

I already have put it away since the Tory party conference last year! There seems to be a picture of her in the press wearing it every day at the moment. It's forever going to be recognisable as that Sam Cam dress

can you imagine the conversation pre conference

spin doctor - 'sam you are going to have to wear some of that high street shite'
sc - 'ffs i am landed gentry and my pals own shops like plumo why the feck do i have to traipse about in badly fitting polyester?'
spin doctor - 'we all make sacrifices, yesterday john gough smiled at a nurse'

Shaz10 · 23/03/2010 08:43

I had a shirt I wore for work. One day I saw Hayley wearing it in Corrie. I haven't worn it since.

MmeLindt · 23/03/2010 08:45

You have two options.

When you wear it and someone mentions SamCam you either say 'Who is SamCam?' or you make a joke out of it by saying that she must have seen you wearing it and bought it because it looked so good on you.

Or burn it.

Oops, that was three options.

RamblingRosa · 23/03/2010 08:46

Bariatric ...except I refute the suggestion that my lovely dress is made of "badly fitting polyester"

OP posts:
RamblingRosa · 23/03/2010 08:46

Or flog it on ebay

OP posts:
fishie · 23/03/2010 08:46

you could wear it to a halloween party.

RamblingRosa · 23/03/2010 08:47

There must be aspiring Tory wives out there who would love to emulate Sam Cam by wearing her polka dot dress. Maybe those types of ladies don't shop on ebay though

OP posts:
RamblingRosa · 23/03/2010 08:48

I hadn't thought of the fancy dress option. I don't think I've been to a fancy dress party since I was about 12. Maybe now is my chance.

MmeLindt · 23/03/2010 09:11

Yes, an Election Day Fancy Dress Party.

Come as a politician.

I am sure my mum has a blouse with a bow, and a smart little hand bag. Just need a blue suit and some curlers.

LaurieFairyCake · 23/03/2010 09:17

You'll make your money back by selling it on ebay as it sold out in the shops to all those loons who want to actually emulate Samcam.

You, however have your own taste seeing as you bought it before her so I suggest you flog it and buy something a Tory is less likely to wear -perhaps some DocMarten boots?

RamblingRosa · 23/03/2010 09:52

Maybe I could sew in an extra panel and make even more money by flogging it as a Sam Cam maternity frock

i was desperate to get my mitts on that dress, saw Myleen Klass wearing it in some pap shot and thought "that's a nice dress, would suit me, oh wow it's m&s, job done" but could not find it in any store or online in my size.

was rather pissed off.

THEN the fateful conference and she was wearing my dress

and i realised that the lord does indeed move in mysterious ways. verily. and i was thankful.

sorry doesn't help you much. but i do emphasise, it's a lovely dress but i just could NOT bring myself to ever wear it again if it was me, soz.

GeneHuntsMistress · 23/03/2010 10:41

emphasise? that will teach me to text and post at same time

of course EMPATHISE oh lordy

Can't help but I was pretty mortified when I saw this person from Eastenders wearing MY dressing gown.

Actually now my mortification is complete, I think this is Phil Mitchell wearing it!!!!

Shaz10 · 23/03/2010 12:45

Ewwwwwwwww!

MamaGoblin · 23/03/2010 17:45

I wouldn't wear it again, I suspect. I'd hate to feel that other people might think that I was trying to emulate her. There's always ebay.

Of course, she probably won't be able to fit into it much longer!

There again, I was put off wearing Mitsouko perfume (Guerlain) because it was Mrs. T's favourite scent, so I might be a little unbalanced on this sort of issue...

Mumsnut · 24/03/2010 10:39

Dye it? A good dry cleaner should be able to advise.

HalfTermHero · 24/03/2010 11:59

I say ebay it, sorry. It is just too linked to Sam Cam now and will be forever.

Shaz10 · 24/03/2010 12:32

You might actually get more for it on ebay than if she hadn't worn it. Play up the SamCam angle.

GeneHuntsMistress · 24/03/2010 14:20

oh yes, shaz has a very good point there! must be loads of samcam fawners to bump up the price

woiuld def do this as really truly would not be able to wear it again myself, sorry op!

mamagoblin - how awful for you re: the perfume, it's not just the upset of having to stop with a scent you love, but the mere thought that some small part of you shares the same taste as that "woman" oooh

MamaGoblin · 24/03/2010 15:20

I've never worn Mitsouko, GeneHunt - just was tempted because I love the smell, but didn't want to smell of Thatch! There are plenty of other classic Guerlain scents I love (just can't afford them ).

bishboschone · 24/03/2010 20:24

Am I. Missing something? Who cAres who wore it, if you like it and it suits you wear it. I have the same body shape as mylene and I wanted one but couldn't get one. I would still buy one even though she wore it. Or am I the only who couldn't give a damn about famous people and what they wear.?
