I drink green tea and I am not skinny

Flame · 21/03/2010 10:04

um, well you won't put milk in so that'll save calories?

diddl · 21/03/2010 10:26

I also drink green tea & haven´t noticed any weight loss.

cyb · 21/03/2010 10:32

I've just bought some, mainly because I am trying to cut down on the GALLONS of milk I add to normal black tea, I mean about 1/3 of a pint to each cup.

. I have amazingly developed a taste for tea without milk and Green tea is a milder type of tea, more drinkable sans milk

I drink green tea but can't think that I've lost any weight- but it is very refreshing and really good for you.

RipMacWinkle · 21/03/2010 20:23

A friend told me the other day she'd bought fennel tea from H&B and it's meant to be good for weight loss.

She's lost over a stone and is looking fantastic but don't know how much of that is due to the tea!

jenduff · 21/03/2010 20:39

Hi there

Green Tea, and especially Oolong cetainly can help with weight management.

Research has shown it does actually increase your metabolism and burn fat. It has loads of other great health benefits as well.

Loads of good info here : www.teaandweightloss.net

It is not a "magic bullet" though, when it comes to slimming, but it can help, big time. There is a lot of hype and bold claims, but that is just over the top marketing.

Green tea can be an acquired taste. I quite like Oolong Tea (probably the best sort of tea for health and weight issues), although my partner didn't like it. At the end of the day, even if you swap your big morning latte for a cup of green tea - that's got to help.

ShinyAndNew · 23/03/2010 10:49

Ohh Brazil Nuts. I already have green tea.

Saying that though I eat seeds, salmon, nuts etc quite regularly. I always have Jordans fruit and nut musli for breakfast I add extra seeds about twice a week and I eat Salmon about once a week/every two weeks. Perhaps that is not enough?

ShinyAndNew · 23/03/2010 10:51

And while we are all being sheep Flax seeds and flax seed oil is meant to help weight loss because they contain the right amount of omega 3, 6 and 9 to help promote fat burning or something.

I'm sure I read something about an enzyme in pineappples too that burns fat.

Floopy21 · 23/03/2010 12:30

You have to drink at least three cups a day for it to be beneficial for weight loss apparently.

Walnut8 · 23/03/2010 14:02

There is also caffeine in green tea and caffeine in general supposedly aids weight loss. I lose more weight when I drink coffee than green tea however as it works as an appetite suppressant for me I think. A girl I used to work with only ever drank green tea - four very strong cups a day - and was quite chubby. Like Lordkensal said, not a magic bullet. GT very good for you though in terms of antioxidants.

Benjy · 23/03/2010 14:36

Walnut I've found exactly the same thing. I have a healthy breakfast and supper, a light lunch and I've started drinking a couple of cups of coffee in the afternoon, which makes a huge difference to the amount I eat. I no longer feel the urge to snack late afternoon, which I think was undoing my attempts to lose the baby weight.

I have drunk several cups of green tea a day by the way for the last few days and it hasn't made any difference to my weight. When I just drink green tea and water though have noticed it gives me a much improved complexion.

Walnut8 · 23/03/2010 14:49

Benjy funny you say that. I have great skin when I lay off coffee. But I'm much skinnier when I'm drinking it. Can't win!

rimmer08 · 23/03/2010 21:36

green tea has no caffine and has natural anti oxidants so is better for you. i reckon the only way it would help weight loss is if you were on a diet aswell. the twinnings ones are nice, i get too hypre on caffine and it is much more interesting than drinking plain water.

MaryAnnSingleton · 24/03/2010 12:10

actually green tea does contain caffeine, unless decaffeinated of course

catinthehat2 · 24/03/2010 12:23

Word of warning about Lord Kensal's link.

It offers free "Cho Yung" tea in a couple of places.

Before you take up any such offers, I strongly recommend you google the words

Cho Yung Tea Scam

laurengreyson · 11/03/2015 11:44

Catechins, the antioxidants found in high amounts in green tea, have been shown to be helpful in promoting weight loss. Drinking 2 – 3 cups can help you to burn up to 100 calories.

Research has shown those who drink green tea every day boost weight loss twice as much as those who don’t. Plus, tea drinkers have also been shown to lose significantly more belly fat than the non-tea drinkers.

Drinking green tea also helps to increase your fat-fighting metabolism during exercise. It does this by burning fats instead of carbohydrates. This delays your fatigue, which allows you to exercise longer, resulting in more fat burnt. The essential oils in the tea help to aid digestion and emulsification of fats.

Zombie thread

pinkfrocks · 11/03/2015 12:05

Nothing helps weight loss except a deficit of calories.
Anything that purports to induce weight loss is nonsense.
You need a deficit of 500 calories a day for 7 days (3500) to lose 1lb of fat.
That can be 250 cals through exercise and 250 through eating less.

As you gain more muscle through working out - resistance training- you will burn calories even if you are sitting still.

specialsubject · 11/03/2015 15:49

zombie, as is the person who thinks 'research' shows drinking any kind of tea 'burns fat' or 'uses 100 calories'. I looked into this and there is NO,repeat, NO evidence for any measurable difference.

either a crooked seller or someone daft enough to buy London Bridge.
