I don't know anybody who's changed out of their wedding dress for the evening, surely you wear your wedding dress for the whole of your wedding day?

BigBadMummy · 19/03/2010 12:48

No.

I loved wearing my dress and didnt take it off all day and would have gone to breakfast the next day had I been allowed to!!

Congrats by the way!

londonmackem · 19/03/2010 12:49

Don't get anything else I think it is old fashioned to get changed as it stems from the days when people went on honeymoon the same day - a going away outfit.

diddl · 19/03/2010 12:49

If you love it, wear all night & change into something just to leave.

Or not-I got into the car to "go away" in mine

Flame · 19/03/2010 12:52

I didn't change. Wasn't spending that much on a dress and only wearing it for a few hours.

I did take out my contacts and put on my glasses though

mothersmilk · 19/03/2010 12:53

i love mine so much i think i shall sleep in it! also as i think dh to be will be too drunk to safely undo all the buttons. thanks for the advice (its actually what i wanted to hear very reasuring)

I know someone who wore hers through the service, the reception, the all-night party, then kept it on for the journey to the airport, the plane journey and the first day of their honeymoon!

Nightshoe · 19/03/2010 12:57

I didn't change at all. Why pay so much for something you then take off after a couple of hours?!

IHaveABlueCar · 19/03/2010 13:03

I agree with everyone else - I had no intention at all of taking my dress off. In fact, as I had been laced in quite well my brand new dh had to go to our hotel reception to get some scissors to cut me out

badkitty · 19/03/2010 13:04

I've never heard of anyone changing in the evening - you hardly get to wear it for long enough as it is! Dancing to Bon Jovi in my wedding dress at the end of the night was one of the best things ever

Julezboo · 19/03/2010 13:06

I didnt change, I did go back to our hotel room just before the evening reception and had a quick shower then put it back on!

TrillianAstra · 19/03/2010 13:20

Keep it on! (hopefully you've chosen a comfy one!)

cakeywakey · 19/03/2010 13:25

Oooh no, keep your dress on for as long as possible, especially if you love it that much Have a fantastic wedding day!

BexJ78 · 19/03/2010 13:28

keep it on! you only get to wear it once so make the most of it!!! have a brill day!

30andMerkin · 19/03/2010 13:31

Defo keep it on. I kept mine on to 'go away' in - and we left by boat!

The only top tip I would have is to have some nice big comfy tummy flattening pants on underneath for the whole day, then get a trusted bridesmaid to hide a pair of something a bit slinkier in her handbag/with emergency tights etc in the ladies, then you can do a quick change before you leave. Ta da, sex goddess!

mothersmilk · 19/03/2010 13:35

talking of pants i am abit worried about how i shall go to the loo!

OP posts:
30andMerkin · 19/03/2010 13:37

Ah don't worry about it. One friend had a two-part dress thing and she literally had to climb out of her skirt to use the loo. Just get your bridesmaids/sisters/friends to keep everyone else out of the ladies for a bit - it's YOUR day, so you can be queen for 10 minutes to pee in peace!

piprabbit · 19/03/2010 13:38

I'd keep it on - I think there's a certain extra something when your new DH gets to remove your wedding dress for himself at the end of the evening. Something about seeing you walking down the aisle towards him in your lovely dress, and the anticipation of things to come .

Bettymum · 19/03/2010 13:39

How big/tight is your dress mothersmilk? How is it going to make toilet-going difficult? My mind is boggling .
I kept my dress on all day and all night, but I did slip into some sparkly flatties after dinner. You might find that having been on your feet all day you'll want to change shoes (or just go barefoot of course).

mothersmilk · 19/03/2010 13:44

well its quite tight ti the knee overall lengh is to the floor with heels on im just thinking wether or not i can acually hoik it up to um well pee

OP posts:
nickelbabe · 19/03/2010 13:46

no idea about the toilet dilemma!!

i'm planning on doing what cyteen's friend did: OH has alread y been versed in the fact that it's unlikely i'll ever want to take mine off!

keep it on as long you can feel comfortable in it

mothersmilk · 19/03/2010 13:46

hmm thinking abot it noe its probably do able if i get my sister to hold it up whilst i hu hum you know

Bicnod · 19/03/2010 13:49

I wore mine all day. It didn't come off until DH and I collapsed into bed that night

Bridesmaids took it in turns to hoik it up when I went to the loo. Mine wasn't particularly big but I wasn't taking any chances.

piprabbit · 19/03/2010 13:50

If your reception is in a hotel, it might be worth hiring an extra bedroom for you to use during the reception.

We did, because I had been very ill and thought I might need a bit of a lay down. It came in really useful though because we left all our bags in it. But the best bit was having a proper, clean bathroom to pee in - with as much space as I needed to disrobe in privacy.

pop1973 · 19/03/2010 21:20

I wore my wedding dress all day and evening do and went into the hotel for the wedding night in my wedding dress. As you have paid that much for the dress, it is really the only time you are going to wear the dress. Make the most of it. Hope you have a lovely time !!!!
