I'm totally flummoxed by what to get my sister for her 40th ... I'd thought about a really nice purse but am not quite sure that she'd appreciate it as much as I would (also, Mulberry purses which I'd been thinking off are beyond my budget which doesn't help ) and then thought about something nice from Tiffany - but she doesn't wear silver jewellry. Guess I'd like something she won't buy herself and a bit of a luxury item. Budget up to £150. I'm off for lunch now and then school runs, homework, dinner, blah blah blah but will check in later to see if there are any wonderful suggestions!!

I was given 6 fantastic crystal wine glasses - I love them and everytime I have a glass of red wine I think of the wonderful person who gave them to me. Its nice at the end of a long, houseworky messy day to sip wine from a beautiful glass. Its not something I would ever buy myself as i would think £25 for a single glass was ridiculously expensive when there are bills to pay but they are fab and I can enjoy them guilt free!

have you thought of getting her one of those experience sets. Hot air ballooning, weekend away, F1 driving, bungee, spa weekend.

I have always fancied having a go at this!

I'm getting mine a pair of (children's) theatre tickets and a restaurant lunch to share with her DD on a girl's day out. i would join them too, but she lives 4000 miles away

I got DH a year's membership to the Tate Galleries with private views included for his 40th. It was so successful we've renewed it every year.

There are some absolutely lovely ideas here - thank you .... but I don't think they're 'her'. I'm thinking more of a keepsake - the glasses are a great idea but she has loads of things like that so am thinking something more personal iykwim. . Any more ideas please?
