Honest opinions needed

I have a wedding to go to. (Evening do only)

Photos of dress in profile. I don't see myself properly (I'm a 10-12 but see myself as massive), so it makes more sense for you lot to see me.

Can I get away with that dress (Obv with a decent strapless bra so my norks are where they are meant to be!)? Do the magic knickers give me too much of a back fat thing going on? Am I just too rounded now to do it?

Having a cash and clothing crisis, so desperately trying to find something I already own. Can't find the bloody dress I actually want.

I'm not going to be offended by honesty

Listen carefully.

You are not fat.

The reason I advise you not to wear that dress is that it's horrendous.

I would advise Kate Moss not to wear it.

Flame · 15/03/2010 10:25

lmao point taken

Now if you could find me a v cheap dress that isn't horrendous that would be fabulous!

Agree with Tethersend.

You have a great figure but no to the dress.

TrillianAstra · 15/03/2010 10:29

ebay?

tethersend · 15/03/2010 10:31

What's your budget?

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 15/03/2010 10:34

I agree with posters below.

asos has lots of nice things in the sale. 95% is hideous, but if you look through there's some really great dresses

miche8 · 15/03/2010 10:39

You are not fat.....not liking the dress looks quite dated to be completely honest. Have always found those magic knickers so uncomfortable, and yes they just roll down or squash the flab to another part.

I think you will find something on ebay for a good price.....recent things i've sold went only for a couple of £s some of it still new with tags.

Is it a strapless dress you want?

Flame · 15/03/2010 10:42

Ideally a dress I could wear a bra with straps with (b/feeding so will be fairly heavy by the end of the night!).

I need the knickers - still no tummy muscles post DD2 so my belly hangs towards my knees That ain't pretty regardless of what size you are

Wedding is Friday, so ebay prob out as I can't guarantee it getting here. Can get to most shops in rl.

Budget about £20 (unless I can talk DH into not needing a new shirt, but he has suddenly found fashion ). Or if I credit card it to pay off next month...

suwoo · 15/03/2010 10:47

Have you tried Very? There are some nice things on there, will arrive tomorrow and you can pay monthly.

tethersend · 15/03/2010 11:13

How about something like this or this?

tethersend · 15/03/2010 11:23

Or this?

Would you do maxi with jewellery?

tethersend · 15/03/2010 11:27

also nice

bunnymother · 15/03/2010 11:45

Flame - you are not fat, but that dress is awful. Bin it. The first dress (black from DP) that tethersend linked to looks lovely. I don't really fancy the others. Another shop that you can look in in RL, that annoyingly doesn't have a website, is H&M. I got a great red dress there for £25 the other week. But if you have no time for much shopping, I would get that DP dress. Think you will get much wear out of it, and always look lovely in it.

tethersend · 15/03/2010 11:49

That one is my favourite too.

justallovertheplace · 15/03/2010 11:50

I agree, the DP dress is lovely. I have a silky one in pretty much the same cut but from Miss Selfridge, and it is such a flattering cut. Buy it

justallovertheplace · 15/03/2010 11:50

ALso, if you have time, charity shops are always worth a browse. I got a brand new Coast dress last week for £15 in our local Scope for a wedding I'm going to in a few months. Can't be bad

MissWooWoo · 15/03/2010 11:53

not a nice dress I'm afraid, try Next - they deliver fast and you don't have to pay straight away. Something like this is lovely, flattering and around your price range

this is fab!

bit of a bargain

quite nice

simple

Definitely suggest looking in DP, New look, H&M and supermarkets. Or Primark, they had some really nice stuff the other day and you know it won't cost a lot

piprabbit · 15/03/2010 12:26

Take a look at MandCo - they have a pretty blue dress reduced to £15 - so you could afford the Next Day Delivery charge.

Also pop into Matalan as they have some nice little dresses for under £20 at the mo.

Flame · 15/03/2010 16:17

Thank you Will go shopping tomorrow, will try and try on all the various links and will let you know what is bought

Taking Psycho with me. She gives painfully honest opinions

Lots of trying-on is a good plan

Flame · 16/03/2010 13:15

I've ended up with a spotty dress that I can't find on the new look site. Not 100% convinced, but best of a bad lot tbh. They are all designed for the small of nork atm.

OP posts:
Flame · 16/03/2010 15:50

Ok, found the original dress I was hunting for (cunningly hidden under a blanket over the back of a rocking chair )

I now have pics of that, plus the new one up.

Choose!

Sorry for poor quality, memory card for camera awol and phone is a whole 2mp!
