Can I mix 2 different shades of home hair dye?

JackBauer · 09/03/2010 18:37

No, seriously.
I want to dye my hair and had some 'pinot red' in the cupboard from Aldi (nothing but class, me)
I went in today to get another box as my hair is quite long and they don't do the same colour, I bought a box of chestnut brown or something instead.
I can't mix them can I? They aren't the same packaging or trade name but it just looks as if the packaging has change and they are the same brand...

Am I going to have to buy another box to match the brown one I have?
Or do I mix it in a bowl and fuck it?

bear in mind I cut myself a new fringe the other day and always sport the MN haircut, I am NOT precious about my hair.

i would go for your 'mix it in a bowl and fuck it!'

But that is just me so i wouldn't advise you listen .

mix the hair dyes, but do a strand test to check the result.

JackBauer · 09/03/2010 19:02

strand test? Boor-orr-ing!

couldn't have put it better myself!

So have you mixed it yet?

CMOTdibbler · 09/03/2010 20:08

I mix mine - but same brand, just slightly different colours.

Works fine. And I've discovered how to do my front layers myself doing the MN haircut technique and am dead pleased. May be able to stretch out a full cut to once a year at this rate

ronx · 09/03/2010 21:17

Oh well, if you want to live dangerously and end up with purple hair ...

CiderIUpAndSetIFree · 09/03/2010 22:11

I like your style!

I've mixed colours before but only from the same brand (plum and black, the result was fine).

How sure are you that it's the same stuff in a different pack? What's the worst that can happen?

JackBauer · 10/03/2010 10:05

It's definately not the same colour in different packs but the original pack is a good year old and the instructions/pictures on the leaflet are veyr similar, plus the small print is identical.
Haven't mixed it as feel sick now and was in bed by 9. I will do it later....maybe

Purple hair would be awesome

JackBauer · 10/03/2010 21:51

Still not done it, am waiting until I can bend over without wanting to either vomit or pass out...

last year i did have purple hair ,and some pink in with it too, pic on my profile

JackBauer · 10/03/2010 22:38

Oh very nice!
I doubt pinot red and deep chestnut brown will make purple though. Although I will live in hope

mummylin2495 · 11/03/2010 17:34

yes it looks purpleish but its an ok colour.Did you make all those lovely cakes ? They are fab and im very impressed

JackBauer · 11/03/2010 19:50

DD1 sort of put her head on one side and said 'Your hair is very shiny, Mummy, and it's purple! Can I ahve purple hair?'
DH likes it too, which is good, not that I care but it saves on the 'WTF have you done to your hair now' convos.

I made all of them, and the handbags too

thanks!

Nice shade - I guess the Pinot came through then!

Perhaps I should give it a try - my 3yo DD looked at me just before the school run this morning and said (in a voice rich with mirth) 'Mummy, your hair looks terrible '

mummylin2495 · 11/03/2010 22:02
