Renting a designer dress - good or bad??

Whilst shopping for dresses (I'm a guest at a good friends wedding) I came across this site that lets you higher expensive dresses.

I really love this but would I be insane to spend this amount of money on a dress for a day?

Has anyone ever used a site like this before?

Haven't used a site like that before, but have hired formal dresses from a local shop for balls. OK, it's expensive, but it was still cheaper than buying a dress, and allowed me to wear a different dress each time (was for uni formal balls). I thought it was a good idea

that you can even consider a size 10 frock, though!

I'm actually a size 12! But the wedding is a while away and I have been meaning to go on a diet (I should be a size 68-10 really!) so this might be a motivator for me!

What happens if you ruin the dress I wonder, need to investigate more.

There was a deposit you paid at the place I went to, which was the insurance for any damage. A friend of mine had coke spilt on her dress; once the shop had made sure the stain came out with drycleaning, they returned her deposit as the cost of a dryclean was included in the hire fee.

I think hiring is a great way to go. It's a misnomer to think that it is a waste of money. Many people spend a fortune on an outfit only to wear it once (I have a wardrobe full of gorgeous eveningwear to substantiate this!!). I have recently come to the conclusion that hiring is the way I shall dress myself for any formal events this year.

I have hired - don't forget you still have to get shoes, bag etc....

Love the dress, it is fabulous!
