Help me find a SAHM uniform

Having just made the momentous decision not to go back to work at the end of my maternity leave, I feel I need to up my game in the style stakes.

Slobbing about the places in jeans with a different top (or not!) depending on how covered in sick/milk/food/general baby grimness it got during the preceding day is no longer going to cut the mustard if I can't tell myself it's just a temporary situation and soon I will be back in the suits.

When I thought I was going back to work, it didn't matter that I hadn't worn a skirt or make-up for 10 months. Somehow, now it does.

But I still need EASY clothes (DD is 8 months and will be crawling soon) and flat shoes. I am aiming to get dressed for the day in about 10 minutes flat, if you get my drift.

Help me.

Those are truly hideous Starbear!

I have these which Work fine for me at the moment.... but my DC are only at the tag-rugby stage, maybe it'll get even wetter, colder and longer when they're a bit older, so I've bookmarked your hideous boots for a few years time!

lymond
that seems to be my uniform too!
Although I usually wear tunics or dresses ove rthe leggings/jeans.
When I can finally ditch the boots I will wear ballet pumps, plus waterfall cardigan type thing instead of coat.
And then when summer finally arrives, it will be dresses with ballet pumps/flip flops or wedges, wide leg linen trousers and vest plus cardigan.
Am looking forward to shoes, fed up of boots now!

I had this dilemma last year and I came upon this website which provided some very useful guidance. Look at thispage
She has some summer uniform suggestions too!

Howmanytimes · 08/03/2010 20:47

Oh bum it's not taken you to the right page. Go to You Look Fab and search for "Mom on the go" I know....but some great outfit ideas. She gives you 10 casual outfit formulas that are really helpful. I've had lots of positive comments since trying them.

Lymond I think those boots are fab will bookmark those for September. Then I can look like a Yummy Mummy instead of one of the dustmen But my boots are for work and meant I didn't slip once in the snow and could discharge my duties with warm toes.

Starbear · 09/03/2010 08:45

Lymond they look fab in black too!

Lymond · 09/03/2010 08:50

Haven't got them in black... hmmm, maybe I'll hint to the kids about a mothers day present...

They are totally waterproof, warm, comfortable yet non-slippy.

Romanarama · 09/03/2010 09:32

I have those Timberlands too. They are waterproof and warm and work for rugby and dog-walking while still looking quite elegant. They really had good traction on the ice too. Actually I'm sick of them as have worn almost nothing else on my feet for 3 months!

My fave inspiration for putting outfits together is to go on netaporter. Rarely can I afford anything from there, but every item is shown as an ensemble with the shoes, bag, scarf etc.... there are some lovely looks. Sometimes they would only work on a super skinny, but definitely some yummy mummy looks too.....
