Winter/Spring + 7lbs too heavy = Style rut!

I've been living in knit dresses, tights and boots for the last couple of months but now that Spring is almost upon us I need a change.

However, I still haven't lost the half a stone gained over Christmas so none of my jeans fit. Well they do but I hate the little over the waistband bulge and the tightness on my thighs and bottom. I refuse to buy a bigger size! Usually a 12 is loose and a 10 can be a little tight but my jeans are all 12s and they look crap. My usual Spring staple is jeans with a vest top or t-shirt and either a little cardi or short jacket.

I bought a pair of jeggings in a dark blue (Cheap and stretchy alternative to new jeans) but when I showed my friend she said "Aww. They have an elasticated waist. I used to wear jeans like that when I was pregnant" She wasn't being unkind but I felt embarassed. I was wearing them with this top and thought I'd found a good alternative to my skinny jeans to see me through until I'd lost the half a stone. I was going to get more in black, grey and another blue but not sure now.

What to do? I really want to get out of the knit dress and boots combo but don't want to buy more jeans as I have loads. Weather isn't helping. One day it's sunny then it snows. I used to love clothes but now that I'm feeling frumpy I seem to have lost direction and don't know what to wear.

Help!

I went through most of last winter/spring feeling like this, shopping trips with money burning a hole in my pocket etc, bought nothing repeatedly, then lost alot of weight htrough the summer and have been really making up for it since... the weight must go, it will be worth it

Amandoh · 04/03/2010 20:48

I agree that it's difficult to shop now. The shops are full of lovely pastel coloured floaty things but it's still too cold to even think about trying them on.

Have seen the uniglo jeans thread and at just £15.00 a pair I think I'll buy a pair or two to wear with longer length tops while I try to shift this extra half a stone.

Where are you getting your knit dresses? I fancy one (so long as it is not itchy or sweaty) and I can't find one I like anywhere.

I look better in a skirt with a top and a little cardi, rather than in jeans, I think.

Amandoh · 04/03/2010 20:54

I got my knit dresses from Oasis, H&M, M&S and Boden Janeite. Not sure you'll find any in store anymore though although there may be some on the sales rails.

Thank you. Nope: they all failed me, mostly because they were too long, or too synthetic.

duckyfuzz · 04/03/2010 21:02

phase eight have some janeite, and at JL there's 20% off I think

duckyfuzz · 04/03/2010 21:05

how about this?

janeiteisFedUp · 04/03/2010 21:07

Lovely colour - thanks. Unfortunately Phase 8 stuff is way too long for me and that neckline not good for norks!

Apologies for hijack btw Amandoh. Ignore me now!

Amandoh · 04/03/2010 21:16

Don't worry Janeite.

What about this short sleeved New Look dress. You could layer it over a thin long sleeved t-shirt.

Or this merino wool one at M&S.

Or this longer sleeved Kenneth Cole one.

I like the M&S one - would depend it t'were itchy. Will deffo have a look for that one. Thank you.
