I need some urgent and cheap style advice. A large group of us are going out for a meal and some drinks this week end. The group will be about 9 women, in their late 30s/early 40s. They always dress well, even in the school yard, and the style factor will be high! I would love your advice on what would look good to wear, posh jeans and a nice top or a dress and boots?? I am in my early 40s and still want to look reasonably trendy,as I am 23 at heart, but feel I am veering towards being a bit mumsy lately. I am average height, size 10 and nny advice much appreciated from the experts.

I'd go for skinny jeans, heels and a nice top. And a statement necklace.
Enjoy!

I'm going out with very trendy friends for a meal on Thursday. I am wearing black leggings or black skinny jeans with black shoe boots. I have bought 3 tight tops in nude, so will be wearing one of those with a black boyfriend cardi and my gorgeous goes with everything black Topshop fringed scarf.

rofl at nice top
no wear a bAD one

MrsPotiphar · 01/03/2010 14:29

sure the nude top wont lok like a prosthesis?

I think accessories are the key to being trendy and as you're going for a meal you need something eye catching on your top half. I'd go for either a scalf or one of the new bib necklace type things. Maybe some bracelets but don't go too ott.

Not unless frilly tits are the norm, no.

Sazisi · 01/03/2010 14:51

I'd go for the dress and boots - you'll have made an effort, but still be comfy and warm (nights out are quite rare for me though, so I like to dress up a bit when I do)

suwoo · 01/03/2010 14:53

Depends what dressand what sort of boots though. That combo could look awful.

wardrobeinsider · 01/03/2010 19:10

This on-trend ruffled Coast dress is a bargain at £45 and comes in a fab youthful bright pink or play-it-safe black, add black tights, sexy knee high boots or platform sandals, chunky statement jewellery (like this) and you're done

Happy shopping x

Thanks s/b experts for all your advice - it does give you a boost of confidence to get some sound advice. Think it will be the posh jeans, new top and some great accessories - great advice on the accessories! Thanks again

I go with the acessories being important! I have been watching a website that has some gorgeous statement necklaces on. just noticed today that a lot of them have now gone into 50% discount. Take a look at this! They were all a bit expensive before but not now! I am going to go for this one. It's stunning.

Clure · 02/03/2010 22:06

this is a fab top, would look great with skinnies

undecidered · 03/03/2010 11:37

Hey clure, that top is fabulous. I do love what all Saints are doing, although they do tend to throw in extra arms and things occasionally which can be awkward.

Clure · 03/03/2010 21:41

yes, have to admit not keen to browse in all saints as the lighting is rubbish and you can't see things properly (all that black flooring and dim lighting!) but I love this dress and am tempted to go try it on
