Gym virgin needs trainers under £60

As part of my "Get Fit Before I'm 50" campaign I need trainers suitable for long walks and the gym. I take a wide fit (E or EE) and don't want to spend more than £50-60 if at all possible. They will need to be sturdy and waterproof.

Any suggestions please ladies?

Best trainers I've ever had were Asics cumulus 9 and I too have wide feet. I liked them so much I never plan to buy anything else and am on my second pair now. If you're wide, steer clear of Adidas as they're on the narrow side in my experience. Asics are FAB and you should be able to get the gel cumulus 9 for your budget.

Do you have a tk maxx nearby?

I buy my running shoes from there, who cares if they are last season!?

I got some for £25 rrp £130 recently.

I second Asics. I can't remember which particular style I have but am now on my 4th pair - all of which have been different styles but all very comfy and long lasting.

bargain and some good makes on here... I have asics too at the mo, but also like new balance and my husband rates brooks. Good luck with your mission !

I'm a Personal Trainer and like a few others here would definitely go for ASICS, especially if you plan on doing any impact work.

If you go to an ASICS shop, they have a treadmill which will look at the way you walk or run and they can then select a suitable pair for your particular gait and foot shape.

Brilliant! Thanks everyone for your replies - I have found a couple of local shops that stock ASICS and will check them out.

I have my gym induction on Thursday - - wish me luck!

Hope you enjoy the gym. Exercise is so addictive when you get into it. I am really missing my 'fix' at the moment as am pregnant and suffering with round ligament pain. Can't wait to get back to it in a few months.
