The theme is Nautical and basically havn't a clue...not into denim hotpants! I don't want to spend a fortune and would like to buy something that I could wear again.

Please help?

Hmm - was thinking hen night + boat, to which my (strong) advice would be 'life jacket'.

Assuming you are on dry land, how about something like a 'boat neck' blue and white stripe T - petit bateau (!) generally does them.

Something like this? Or this?

sweetheart · 28/02/2010 16:40

There is loads of nauticle stuff in the shops right now. New look has loads at reasonable prices - I brought a blue and white stripped top in there for about £10 the other day. Team it with jeans and some blue and red bangles.

Once again I am in total awe of tethersend.

This dress is nautical gorgeous-ness! It's not cheap but it's certainly chic and a total classic:

www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10001_10001_038010280460_-1?brea dcrumb=Home~stripe+dress

I'd add a red silky neck scarf and some red shoes...

And maybe even a little white sailor hat to add a bit of fun like this:

or this

Another option for a more casual sailor look is something like this from Next:

www.next.co.uk/shopping/women/smartcasual/29/1?extra=sch&n=women&pid=499-514&exclude =00AA0100%7c00A00&returnurl=%2fsearch%3fp%3dQ%26lbc%3dnext%26uid%3d769702729%26ts%3dv8%26w%3dnautica l%26af%3dgattgender%3awomen%26isort%3dscore%26method%3dand%26filter%3dsubset%253a4201%26nxtv%3d000%2 6nxti%3d0&bct=%26quot%3bnautical%26quot%3b%26nbsp%3b%26gt%3b%26nbsp%3bWomen

Whatever you choose I hope you have a fab time!

Sorry, I messed up the links...

Try www.debenhams.com and search for 'ottoman dress'

The Topshop dress Tethers linked to is gorgeous. My DH likes it too, if that helps.

slightlystressed · 01/03/2010 17:30

Blue and white or red and white stripy top, jeans (white if you own a pair!), cheapy Sailors hat (e.g www.onlinejokeshop.co.uk/fancy_dress_hats/Sailor_Hats/ big sunglasses, and lots of camping it up by scanning the horizon should do it.

Or pirate girl - eye patch, bandana, 'wench-like' top, scabbard on your belt, boots, bottle of rum in your hand...

Or you could get a giant yellow souwester, hat, wellies and a couple of plastic fish and be a fisherman! Maybe not...
