Is East frumpy or stylish?

From their website it looks as though it could be either. I've seen a couple of things I quite like, but not sure. Can anyone shed any light on this please?

I am 50s and as my 82 yr old mum always finds lovely things in East, I think it's bordering on old and frumpy- I wouldn't buy there. Most stuff is droopy calf length and shapeless, though colours are nice.

Think it depends what you do with the pieces. I am too large and 45. I wear quite a lot of east e.g. A black devore Cardigan thing very long that looks terrible over evening stuff but great with jeans and black tee shirt. Least I hope it does! Mind you I ilke m and s too though again not to do an m and s outfit!

Wallis is looking good right now

I always liked EAST but found it a bit expensive - am seeing it in a new light now though!

My mum is a big fan but she is 69, and her nearest 'big' town is Tenterden with East, Monsoon, Phase 8 and Country Casuals on offer, so fair enough I guess.
Actually I have never been in East so can't really comment, but in my head it's kind of like White Stuff for the over 60's!

Jeans from Gap are well fitting, also good for basic T´shirts etc.

I buy mainly in the sale, and then pounce at
1.) LK Bennett (very good stuff if you look past the formal dresses, bought two lovely fited long cardi´s there)

2.) Brora (again, only in sale or clearance), amazing quality that lasts years.

3.)White company (for mud coloured tops

4.) Jigsaw

5.) Hobs

I find Toast, M&S, East,Laura Ashley, Monsoon etc. too frumpy or boxy for me (am 38, size 12, 6ft), but my MIL (55) wears all these brands and looks a lot more stylish than me !

It very much depends on the person, doesn´t it?! I look REALLY frumpy in calf length skirts, or bias cut skirts. But on others it can look great.

This is so depressing. I live in jeans and just want them to look a bit smarter and more interesting by wearing different tops. I thought East was nicer than Boden, and less frumpy than M&S.

I used to be a bit of a gothy, hippy type, but I am only 39 now.

Can a shop be frumpy if you do it top to toe, and not frumpy if you just take the tops?

Though do I mind being frumpy? Maybe I don't.... I think I'd prefer it to looking like I was trying too hard to be all modern like.

I agree with MMJ - when you are d'un certain age you have to be prepared to look in lots of different shops to find things that suit you.

I find East to have too many elasticated waists and droopy skirts, but if I found a top or blouse there that suited me I'd buy it (saw a v. yummy muumy at school a couple of years ago in one of their kaftans when that was a current look - looked great).

Likewise Phase8 - avoid the matchy matchy mother of the bride stuff and you can find useful separates; I also have a waterfall cardi in purple linen from there which I'm wearing to death ATM.

I have found well-made and well-fitting cotton trousers in LA and Monsoon (everywhere else seems riddled with polyester), but avoid their loud t-shirts like the plague.

Don't worry where something comes from - if it suits you, buy it.

A lot of their stuff is very frumpy
Agree
Also phase 8 etc
A lot of the prob is their dress/skirt lenghts they are all too long

Having said that i have a gorgeous plain black wrap dress from there that I adore but is sadly too big now

I am 43 and recetnly have bought some bits from

Uniqlo (jeans/cardigans/tshirts/leggings)
Oliver Bonas (nice short day dresses, tshirts)
