Are suspender belts comfortable enough to wear every day?

I hate the way tights cut into my waist and my hold ups gave me a rash, so thinking of trying stockings. Anyone else wear them every day for work? Are they comfortable?

I've never found a comfortable suspender belt but it's probably just me! There's also a bit of a wrestle when going to the loo.

dexter73 · 27/02/2010 14:25

No.

wonderingwondering · 27/02/2010 14:33

Yes, they are much better than tights, esp in the summer. And much more comfortable than hold ups (I'm quite slim but they still DIG IN and leave nasty red marks - and I worry about losing one as I stride across the train platform).

You put your suspender belt on first, then knickers over the top so no loo-wrestling!

And another benefit is if you ladder one, you just change that, and keep the good leg, and you don't have to get completely undressed to change.

Try M&S, they do a very plain, flat style that's good for under most clothes (not frilly lace).

pagwatch · 27/02/2010 15:01

yes very comfortable. I wore them almost every day for all of my 20s and my early 30's.

There is no loo wrestling unless you don't put them on properly as the straps go under knicker leg not over.

You need MorningPaper, she's the resident expert IIRC.

If you get a proper suspender belt (6 or 8 suspenders rather than 4) you should be fine.

LynetteScavo · 27/02/2010 15:23

hELL NO!

lovecheese · 27/02/2010 15:36

strictly for the bedroom

Parmageddon · 27/02/2010 15:39

I have a long body and am tall, so have never found a suspender belt that fits properly and comfortably. So a definite no from me.

DrivenToDistraction · 27/02/2010 15:40

No NOT strictly for the bedroom

As well as a decent number of suspenders you need metal fasteners rather than the crappy plastic ones you get on bedroom only suspenders. I'll see if I can find a link.

It'll give the builders a thrill when your dress blows up anyhow

egbok · 27/02/2010 18:37

Glad to hear some positive stories. I found a very plain one on figleaveswhich appears to have metal clips and is only £12, so thinking it might be worth giving it a try. Cant imagine it would provide much of a thrill though, hiding under my M&S cotton pants...

How many suspenders does it have? You really do need 6 or they'll fall down at the sides all the time...

JohnnyTwoHats · 27/02/2010 19:12

All the ones on Figleaves appear to have four only.

msrisotto · 27/02/2010 19:18

I'm tall and Hate tights 'cos the crotch is always down the middle of my thighs. Suspender belts, I have found ARE comfortable enough (better than bloomin tights anyway and hold ups fall down in the cold!)
www.sockingshq.com are ok.

msrisotto · 27/02/2010 19:22

Wish I could find opaque stockings though.

MrsBadger · 27/02/2010 19:34

Falke do opaque stockings iirc

pricey though

MrsBadger · 27/02/2010 19:47

not Falke, Levante, soz

angelsfield · 27/02/2010 19:55

Wolford do some fantastic opaque hold ups, they don't fall down, are really comfy and last for absolutely ages. They are pricey at about £20 per pair but they've lasted 2 winters now and are still going strong.
Get the plain ones rather than the merino ones.

watfordmummy · 27/02/2010 20:00

I used to wear them all the time, now wear hold ups and have found "shock" Primark ones are quite good

CMOTdibbler · 27/02/2010 21:41

Stockings Hq do a suspender belt that is really the dogs doodahs - they are v comfortable and don't move. Fab range of stockings including tall and extra tall too. Big range of opaques and all sorts of others.

Starbear · 27/02/2010 21:56

I used to wear them all the time when I was skinny. Great for going to the loo. Not comfortable now I'm size 14.

higgle · 28/02/2010 11:08

I'd second Stockings HQ - and that you need 6 clips. My favourite is very plain and black, and for some reason DH finds 6 clps rather exciting, though I usually wear it with levante wool stockings in the winter, nothing racy.

morningpaper · 28/02/2010 19:40

ooh yes I do like suspenders, very nice in the summer for air conditioning oneself.

I find them comfy but I think they need to be quite firm around the waist and I often buy a size smaller than I expect - otherwise it feels like it is slipping down around the hips which isn't nice.

I find them comfy! You do notice you are wearing them but that is part of the fun
