Help me I'm doing the headless chicken indecision thing!

First thread ever but I need help! I've pretty much decided to order one of the short cap sleeve dresses from here www.getcutie.co.uk/dresses/index.html but am confused as to which fabric to order it in.

It's primarily for a wedding in April, my DH is best man so I want to look fab and am a bit too 'alternative' in my tastes to go down the old Coast/Monsoon route, also have done that before & never worn said dresses again. Am also pretty skint so want to get my wear out of it, e.g for DH's 30th, summer, meals out etc!

I randomly ordered this bag www.inisonline.com/product/design-led-handbags/1620-tulip-small-cross-the-body-bag/c-5/ last night deciding I'd get use out of it again, but that can go back. I like the vintagey feel though.

I have very few shoes, I hate shoe shopping, but do have some black vintagey looking mary jane heels that could work with something...aargh I don't know!

I loved the glittery skulls fabric but DH says no skulls at weddings, quite like the black russian dolls but am 30 and feel might look a bit daft. I think the bluebirds is lovely for a wedding but not sure I could wear again and also wouldn't work with black shoes!

I did consider the oriental storks but will have to be specially made in 28 days and am worried if I don't like it that doesn't leave much time to start from scratch!

I'm about 5'5", dark brown newly bobbed hair swishes, size 12-14, more 14 but working on it, but will be a 16 in these dresses & olive skin with dark brown eyes.

Please help!!

OMG I am in actual love with that skull print dress!

You sound identical to me apart from the olive skin thing (mine is blue in winter!) and of all the dresses on that page, I personally would go with either the rose print, or the ladybird print - think this one is very cute

Are you definitely going for a cap sleeve dress? I think the halter necks look very flattering but obviously not everyone likes them.

This is a nice pattern, could work well on either style of dress www.getcutie.co.uk/fabric-gallery/index.html

and they also do the russian dolls fabric with a black background. Or you could go for the Batman print!!! but I know that you don't really want to have to order one to be specially made. You could contact them though I suppose, see if they could rush an order through?

I'm aware that the patterns that are catching my eye though, are the 'darker' style ones that I personally prefer (I'm not a girlie girl, pastels hate me!) but would you wear pastels? If so, the blue russian dolls one is lovely, and I think quirky but not too much for a wedding

MrsMeow · 27/02/2010 14:10

D'oh I'm stupid, you already know about the black russian dolls

MrsMeow · 27/02/2010 14:12

Erm, hello again my link didn't work. It's the one directly above the strawberry in the fabric grid. It's actually Little Red Riding Hood!

BunnyLebowski · 27/02/2010 14:31

Right here's my tuppence worth.

LOVE the site and the cap sleeved dress is a gorgeous style.

I really love the kitsch pin-up girl prints and the skull one but from a practical point of view I would go for one of the following...

This is fab

Awesome! Maybe he won't notice the skulls?

This is beautiful and would look great

Ditto for this one especially with your colouring

tulpe · 27/02/2010 14:59

Those dresses and skirts are stunning Thanks for sharing the link.

Have you made a decision yet?

My favourite print is the Eiffel Tower one

WithMomentsOfMildPeril · 27/02/2010 16:36

Ooh thank you for the replies!!

I am def after the cap sleeve as my boobs just fall out the middle of a halter neck style and it is also a good way of not having to also buy a shrug/cover up (have bingo style tops of arms!)

I would wear none-black but would feel safer with a black base & would also get a lot more wear out of it if it were black based pattern, I did quite like the gnomes but have decided I should probably try to look a bit more grown up and dressy!

DH says the black sailor is a do-er but it looks a bit dull when you see it made up into a skirt. I'm also wondering about the size of print, eg should I stear towards a larger print or a small print-I think larger cos I'm not a petite girl.

Do like little red riding hood but am considering the red floral and large poppies as I do suit red shades, also like the ladybirds but think the print is too small for me.

Decisions, decisions but am narrowing down now-thank you!

Oh when you go in to order a dress the red helena floral fabric isn't there so can't have that, darn it they must have a small amount of that one. DH doesn't like the cowboy poppies one, he's averse to too much floral

Ok I went and ordered it in the Oriental Stork fabric so it's a wee wait for it. I think with my colouring I suit asian/oriental patterns and could vintage it up a bit, I do want to look 'weddingy' and can wear it afterwards with tights or leggings hopefully.

Love love love love the blubird print. In fact I am going to order myself one now

thanks.

allaboutme · 27/02/2010 20:43

The bluebird one is beautiful!!!! If I could afford it I'd buy one!
I have a dress in the skull and roses pattern that I wore to a wedding! It was an afterwedding party though and I did wear something more sensible for the actual wedding

OP- have you seen irregular choice shoes? I ahve a feeling you might like them?

OurLadyOfPerpetualSupper · 27/02/2010 20:52

Thanks so much for linking to this website, even though I'm sure I'm too old at 46 to wear any of it. < hopes for reassurance - doesn't get it >

Sounds like you're sorted - have a lovely time.
(Btw, would any of the Fly London shoes be suitable?)

WithMomentsOfMildPeril · 27/02/2010 21:28

I would adore some fly london shoes and have been drooling over the irregular choice courtesan shoes all week- the black & red ones were reduced to £40 earlier in the week! But am skintaroo and wouldn't really get my wear out of them to justify the price

I almost ordered the bluebird fabric- on the facebook get cutie page is a gorgeous pic of a woman wearing it to a wedding, but I want to wear the shoes in my wardrobe & don't think pastels suit my olive skin as well as stronger colours.

Am thinking of gold accessories or possibly a string of pearls if that's not too twee, am worrying now that it'll all be a bit confused or I won't like the dress in that pattern when it comes but I guess there'd be a couple of weeks to sort it out

Our Lady of course you could wear it, the pencil dress in something like the bluebird or dancing cranes fabric is dead classy I think.
