Middle-rise jeans - are they the Holy Grail?

Alright, I am fed up with jeans either revealing the top half of my derriere or being so high that they only need a couple of straps to be a pair of dungarees. I need some that sit above the muffin top danger zone but aren't in danger of acting as a ledge for my chest - what there is of it.

I am five foot two (so petite) and I'm looking for some straight leg jeans.

Thank you to any nice person help me in this quest as I am fed up!

Go to Gap - there is 30% off denim until Sunday.

Thanks but they only have skinny or boot-cut jeans in mid-rise on their website and I don't have a Gap near me - it closed down recently.

my favourites are still definitely levi 501s. sit so neatly. they're getting hard to find though!

I bought some Seven For All Mankind jeans that seem to cover the horror but do not lurk near my armpits. They are not cheap however (approx £200) and I got mine in a sale. That said, I have some mid rise skinny ones from Next so that may be a good place to start?

I saw a very useful looking site the other day and bookmarked it. I haven't tried it, but it looks brilliant - they even shorten the jeans for you:

I can never ever find jeans to fit (I am 5ft). A friend told me to go to French Connection which I did. I told them I wanted a pair of straight legged jeans (not skinnies) and they got the perfect pair out which sit nicely on the waist (it means I am not constantly pulling them up) and they fit nicely in the leg. I did have to take them up by about 5 inches but that was no hassle. They cost £70 and are worth every penny.

Thanks everyone for the helpful suggestions, I am going to look into all of them.

These Next jeans are a nice fit

And they're cheap.

Although not straight legged.

I haven't tried them on, but Uniqlo are doing mid rise straight leg jeans.

Boden's straight leg jeans are brilliant. They aren't at all middle aged frumpy. I am long in the body and they sit perfectly on me - containing the muffin top but not so high that they provide a comfy shelf for my breasts either! The waist is nice and relaxed so they don't cut in like other styles.

If price is an issue, I have also found that Asda's straight leg jeans are not only bargainous but very good fit too. £12 a pair. Worth trying on several pairs as the sizing isn't always totally accurate (as is the case with many cheap jeans, I find).

gap straight ones?

Got a new pair of sevens yesterday and the assistant (Selfridges) announced that they had 'low, medium and high waist). Since my previous pair were as usual dropping off my bum I went for medium - which frankly isn't much higher. I felt I just couldn't ask for 'high' as it seemed too soccer mom. (cue jeans falling off butt again in three months').
