Help me escape Boden's clutches

I'd really appreciate some help with my little problem. Maybe it's because a catalogue drops through my door every 3 mins - or maybe it's because I quite like stripes - or maybe it's because it's all very Easy - I just seem to be ordering ALL my clothes from Boden. It's not that I even like many of them (or that I have that much money) it's just crept up on me like a nasty rash!
Much of the problem is my new found love of shopping online (I live in the middle of nowhere)and Boden seems all very familiar and usually good quality. Does anyone have any other suggestions for good online clothes shops?
Ta !

mummygogo · 24/02/2010 20:16

I have a slightly different strain of this condition. I need surgically removing from the White Stuff catalogue. Can't get away from cardigans and vest tops with lovely beady necklaces. Can anything be done to save us?

mummygogo am with you on the white stuff addiction......but also Joules....I even smell the joules as really, like the quality of the paper

traceybath · 24/02/2010 20:25

Would add to LTEC's list:

Kew
Brora
The White Company

But she's pretty much got it covered .

Although I am sure LTEC has never worn anything from White Stuff.

traceybath · 24/02/2010 20:28

Oh and

Wrap Online
Toast

mazzystartled · 24/02/2010 20:32

anthropologie here
swoon

and ted baker - surprisingly wearable

even, sometimes, the odd bit of topshop

LetThemEatCake · 24/02/2010 20:33

I have, I have!! Bendy Wendy yoga pants. Only when hugely pregnant and immediately post-natal, mind...

Let's chuck Hush and MeandEm onto the list as well

LetThemEatCake · 24/02/2010 20:35

register on this site Guidance, suggestions and discounts galore. Comes over as being weighted in favour of £££/ high-end but is actually way more accessible than it first appears

muscatmama · 24/02/2010 21:27

Thank you sane people. I just needed to be reminded you see. I always used to shop in Anthropology, Urban Outfitters and Ted Baker - how did I forget all this stuff? My brain has been fried by my new toddler/baby combo.

I used to buy all of my clothes from Boden - now I buy all of my clothes from White Stuff.

If only I could have some original thoughts of my own things would be fine

GeorginaWorsley · 24/02/2010 21:43

I tend towarsd Boden/White Stuff/Kew as well,as it is so easy!
Recently howeverhave had good results from
Oasis
Warehouse
Topshop
John Lewis
Marks and Spencer
Uttam
Orion London
Great pLains
French Connection.
I love brands like Noa Noa,Avoca,Sandwich etc and find them at Inis online or Getmy wardrobe.
Agree with LTEC,everything online now!

Chandon · 25/02/2010 07:52

Try something stylish and French, for around the same money as Boden:

-Comptoir du Cotoniers (great quality stuff, a bit more grown up than Boden)
-Joseph (buy in the sale)

  • Agnes B

All these offer classic yet modern clothes, wearable and subtly stylish.

muscatmama · 26/02/2010 22:42

Had a toddler free day so I hit the shops and in between feeding and changing a 3 month old I found the old me in Ted Baker and Whistles.Have still ordered a whole pile of plain t shirts from the B word though - they're so long and the cotton is so thick - I just couldn't help it!!!
Thanks everyone for your suggestions. K x

Agree re Comptoir - particularly the sales, where it often goes half price.

Was in agnes b yesterday though and I must say that, to my mind, it was a leetle more pricy than Boden - as in £235 for a cotton print dress. Much nicer of course, but since the euro has risen (the prices in euros are often pretty much the same 'figure') agnes is not noticeably bargainous in France either.

Saw a nice orange/brown dress in the window in Whistles - must admit i had given up on them.

joliejolie · 27/02/2010 10:59

It is easy to step away from Boden when you realise that every item is almost identical to what they have been selling for the past 10 years.

I used to buy loads from Boden until I ordered a jersey wrap dress and discovered that I already owned three others in different patterns. The patterns were so similar though, that they could easily be mistaken for the same dress.

Boring IMO.

I am loving French Connection and My-Wardrobe at the moment. Even H&M is better than Boden right now.

serinBrightside · 27/02/2010 13:56

Cyrillus.

MrsSeanBean · 28/02/2010 12:02

I've found it really easy to resist them this year:

(a) the offerings seem pretty poor (esp skirts and bags);

(b) I asked DH to thow away the catalogues before I see them as they are cunningly laid out to make even the most dire stuff look tempting.

(It's really the holiday by the sea I want, not the clothes )

MrsSeanBean · 28/02/2010 12:05

I went into Oasis the other day and was mightily impressed by their basic white t shirts btw... (nice and long, cheap)

madders · 28/02/2010 22:02

Hate to throw a spanner in the works, but have you seen the new teenage range from Boden - Johnnie B? I was tempted by at least 3 things but fear I am too old (30) and pear shaped for this range (sure to be made for the spagetti figure). Much nicer than grown-up Boden, which I find a bit in-your-face print-wise.

lucykate · 28/02/2010 22:10

have definitely got over my own boden phase, just ordered a sweater dress from uniqlo!

new campaign, after ikea's chuck out the chintz, lets banish the boden!

saltwater is quite nice.
