I am searching for a wedding dress, and an ebay bargain appeals...
Can you share me with me, the shops you bought yours from if you were pleased?
I have heard that some are terrible quality.. and others are fab, so please help me!

where abouts are you purple buns?

bishboschone · 21/02/2010 18:49

My sister has a cancer research shop in sussex and has lots of lovely dresses that have been donated from shops , samples etc..maybe worth a look if you are in the area. Not sure about ebay but I am a dry cleaner and clean and see alot of wedding dresses. Around the £500to £1000 budget the dresses are all the same material(polyester, disguised as satin) . The difficulty with ebay is the fit. I think thats what makes a dress look cheap, so you need to make sure you have a dressmaker lined up to make it fit when it comes in case. hope that helps a bit

Purplebuns · 21/02/2010 19:21

Thank you, I am in deepest darkest Devon, I do have access to dressmakers though, so that should help..
Some shops on ebay do make you give soo many measurements, so hopefully wouldn't be far off a good fit. If I go that route.

Thanks for the tip off with the fabric.. thats is very interesting!

I do have devious means at heart as the cheaper my dress the bigger my diamond...

are you wanting new or 2nd hand..?

Just my sister is thinking about selling her wedding dress.
Strapless type and was gorgeous BUT she's not the sentimental type and wanted the funds instead...

Purplebuns · 21/02/2010 19:34

Well as long as it was a 'Lucky' dress I wouldn't mind.
However, I am at the browsing stage and my proportions are ridiculous! Last measure 11" difference, between bust and waist, and I can't find my measuring tape atm.

bishboschone · 21/02/2010 19:34

yes purple....As far as I am concerned wedding dresses are such a rip off ..most wedding dress shops around here (cant account for other towns) get there dresses from China anyway so with ebay really you are only cutting out the middle man. When I was looking for my wedding the only ones I saw that were actually of a superior quality where in harvey nics/harrods..pure silk etc.

These days the majority of wedding dresses are polysatin now though.

what size are you? I can ask her if she can email you pics of ones she has on your size?

Last measure which was months ago.. 43 bust, 31/32 waist and 40 hips, I think. I am Breastfeeding still at the moment, but will have stopped come the day.

I fit 14 and some 12s but then sometimes bigger for my bust in some places. I struggle with clothes atm. I will try and get a new measuring tape tommorrow.
Thank you

Yes, its a lucky dress..they are still married 6 years later (just celebrated their 6th yr 2 days ago )

My sister is the opposite to me and where as my dress is cleaned and stored for..well dunno what for..but its stored as im sentimental...

Hers is washed and pressed and packaged away and iho just sat doing nothing..

Guess she is right but im to sentimental.

I will try and get her to send me pics if you are interested. It cost her well over £800 but she is wanting much less.

Not to sure of sizing but think she was about a 12.

Purplebuns · 21/02/2010 19:49

I was thinking of something Meringue like, as I need to balance out my top heaviness, also I would prefer straps as they are heavy and would break my shoulders up a bit. If you know what I mean?

I have slight bingo wings also, lol

I presonally wouldn't go for meringue..When I looked at dresses I thought the same as I had bigish boobs and hated my arms BUT opted for a halterneck design which I had made, made my arms look fab.
I also had it in 2 pieces and the bottom part of the dress was quite stream and imo made me look slim. Im only 4ft 11 and had NEVER worn anything below my knee for the fact it made me look shorter and fatter BUT for some reason my wedding dress went against all I thought and loked fab !

Try different design and go from there.

My sisters dress was worn with a long bit of fabric (can't remember name) that she draped over her shoulders, she married in the lakes in feb and it snowed so she never removed this but looked gorgeous. x

Purplebuns · 21/02/2010 20:09

Thanks Shhh there is biggish boobs.. and then there is me 36 H/I! I really fear looking matronly!

I quite like these; Here

I bought a dress from China (that I didn't end up wearing just because I had a change of heart over the style) and it was lovely quality. It was from Milly Bridal. They have a website if you google the name, and they'll make whatever you want. They use polyester satin, but quality is the same as the Maggie Sottero, Alfred Angelo type of dress IMO.

shortandsweet2 · 22/02/2010 15:41

I used this ebay seller the dress was amazing and the quality was fab, a really good weight to the dress.

Purplebuns · 22/02/2010 18:16

Thank you so much!

Korma, I am also looking for a dress, opposite to Purplebuns though because we are getting married abroad and a meringue type would be too hot!

I too am big busted (40G) and about a size 16 - dont suppose you have any to suit in my size? I'm looking for something with straps to hold my norks up, with some diamante detail and that makes me look slimmer...although I realise these 3 together are probably impossible!!

Purplebuns, I too have looked at ebay and there are some beautiful designs but, like you I'm a bit nervous incase they arrive and are awful quality! I'm on quite a tight budget and don't want to waste any money so will watch this with interest!
