Jeans help please

Jeans have never really suited me. I am 5'2 and an hourglass size 12 (10 on a good day) and a bit top heavy, so I have to be careful not to look lumpen.

The jeans I have currently are a pair of Gap long and leans and a pair of New Look Hula - I don't like either of them.

Please advise me what should be looking for, or should I just give up on jeans entirely?

Thanks.

Stacy says women with wide hips should stick with a mid-rise jean that is slightly on the lower side in order to fit around the widest part without creating love handles. Also, look for a straight leg or a trouser leg, which falls down from the hips to create a longer-looking leg line. Ladies with hips typically have thicker limbs, and straight-leg jeans help give the leg a uniform width. Boot-cut jeans only serve to highlight the thickness of the thigh in relation to the knee.

Stacy says if your jeans fit everywhere except the rise?that is, the crotch?it may be because you have a longer torso and shorter legs. If so, even if you are taller, try on a petite pair of the same jeans. You may find they fit infinitely better in the rise and the leg.

Battling a belly bulge? Trying to hide your tummy? Stacy says a boot-cut jean can help to balance out a heavier mid-section. Women with a tummy typically have thinner limbs; the thicker your limbs, the worse a boot cut will look on you, she says. Look for a mid-rise, and make sure the jean hits across the belly, not above or below it. The width of trouser leg jeans can also help create a more balanced bodyline.

Thank you. Who is Stacy?

I am short waisted, fairly slim limbed.

Any more?

m and s indigo jeans slim leg are worth a look for £19.50

janeite · 19/02/2010 19:35

Thanks - will have a look at them. Have previously found M&S ones too 'boxy' for me though.

am short and a size 10 but find these good . but I have a small top my weight is in the trunk.!!! INDIGO is a new range..they fit like my marthas from topshop!!

duckyfuzz · 19/02/2010 20:24

I find gap curvy a better fit on my size 12 pear shape than long and leans

janeite · 19/02/2010 20:25

I tried some size 12 Marthas on earlier this year and couldn't even get them on.

Not tried Gap Curvy - will have a look.

I just bought some Gap curvy jeans (vanity gloat moment please - can now fit into gap jeans. Was a size 24 now 18) and while a little short in the crotch they fit fabulously. They actually make me look like I have an arse instead of just extended thighs.

duckyfuzz · 19/02/2010 20:31

janeite they have quite a decent rise on them, which is a big help!

janeite here is stacy

i too am slim legged and stumpy of bod. uniqlo are good fit for me. i do agree with stacey re bootcuts, they only looked good on me when i was 20kg heavier.

janeite · 19/02/2010 20:51

Thank you. We haven't got a Uniqlo and there's no point me ordering online, as I have to try everything on as I vary so much between styles/sizes etc.

OP posts:
fishie · 19/02/2010 20:56

have a go at m&s then, limited collection stuff is all tiny so they do have some variant.

ooh, have you considered ordering from la redoute? their sizes are rather unpredictable but you would certainly get a fit unlike anything else on high st. must be good at sending back though as you may as well get several pairs to try.

am plodding through slim/straight legs, will link if i find anything possible.

janeite · 19/02/2010 20:59

Thank you again. Nope - I want to get something instore, not online so 'no' to La Redoute.

Will try Ltd Collection.

Hudson jeans if you feel like splashing out, boot cut, brilliant.

PerArduaAdNauseum · 19/02/2010 21:02

While you're all here, what is good for thunder thighs? I'm still not convinced by bootlegs, and I imagine they're about to be deeply unfashionable anyway?

fishie · 19/02/2010 21:25

apparently they are coming back. but stacy says go straight leg. plenty of other considerations, including bottom, worth showing off if nice and round.
