Why is the black more useful? Are you an undertaker?

I have one black dress, 'cos I feel I should, and I never wear it.

KittySpencersEmerald · 18/02/2010 15:02

hmm
i think cos oen can accessorize with diffo shoes etc
with purple its just black innit

But if the purple looks better, does it matter how many pairs of shoes you can wear with the black one? Get the one that looks best!

KittySpencersEmerald · 18/02/2010 15:05

really?

GetOrfMoiLand · 18/02/2010 15:06

Get the purple one.

Time enough when you are old and lumpen to hide away in black.

Or get both!

GetOrfMoiLand · 18/02/2010 15:07

(says me wearing deepest funereal black and don;t actually own anything purple except a scarf)

TheFallenMadonna · 18/02/2010 15:08

Well, how much better does the purple look? I mean, if you can wear the black one with 6 different sets of accessories, but it never looks as good as the purple, what's the point of it? And people won't be fooled into thinking the black is a different dress just because you're wearing different shoes. My year 9 boys always comment if I'm wearing something new. They congratulate me

KittySpencersEmerald · 18/02/2010 15:29

the purple lifts (!) my face more
black not good for me unless night + slap

OP posts:
PandaG · 18/02/2010 15:31

you are a summer aren't you?

def purple. - you could do black or silver accessories, or even teal, if you want to ring the changes.

GetOrfMoiLand · 18/02/2010 15:31

Oh dear now you are sounding like Bridget Jones's mum re colours which lift the complexion a la colour me beautiful

Go for purple. Imagine you have plenty of black stuff already.

KittySpencersEmerald · 18/02/2010 15:31

panda!!! wow

OP posts:
KittySpencersEmerald · 18/02/2010 15:31

OP posts:
fishie · 18/02/2010 15:34

that is very impressive panda.

what dress is it, are you returnign the the mint velvet?

and i'm a summer too, would never get a black dress because i look shit in it even at night with mucho slap.

PandaG · 18/02/2010 15:35

I'm a summer too - hence me remembering from a 'shall I have my colours done' thread ages ago.

not a weird stalker, honest!

GetOrfMoiLand · 18/02/2010 15:38

WQhen I said colour me beautiful I was joking.

Now I find that there is a whole subsection of MN where holding up bits of silver lame to your face is viewed as scientific fact to deduce complexion type

Am slightly scared.

dexter73 · 18/02/2010 15:40

You can wear loads of different coloured shoes/accessories with purple. I think black is harder to accesorise.

fishie · 18/02/2010 15:40

yes getorf, scared and probably a bit pasty looking because you are wearing the wrong hue for your season...

KittySpencersEmerald · 18/02/2010 16:33

panda - you and me both
you can get bored of your colours though cant you....

OP posts:
PandaG · 18/02/2010 17:58

I'm not too bored yet, mainly cos I know I look grim in Spring and Autumn clothes!

I do wear some colours from the winter palette, say a darker purple or a brighter cranberry, but that is mainly as I needed new tops and that was the nearest I could find that season.

I've had my style done too, which was useful, I find shopping is much quicker, and DH gets it right too!

tulpe · 18/02/2010 19:23

Purple is a much better choice. Not only will it enhance your complexion but it looks so much more expensive than black. I always think black with a colour - particularly those which will suit your "summer" complexion - looks cheap. Colours which will work include:

magenta
teal
brown
navy (sounds weird but try it)
black (if you wish)
slate grey
mustard (but doesn't really work for a summer complexion)

jewellery wise, it works as well with silver as with gold, looks fab with pearls and you can ring the changes with scarves and coloured tights.

Disclaimer am not some mad "colour me beautiful" type person but have discovered by own colours by trial and error and it sounds like we have similar colouring

tulpe · 18/02/2010 19:24

BTW, your argument for the black being more useful........it won't be more useful if it spends its lifetime hanging in the wardrobe because it doesn't suit your colouring and therefore you feel crap when you wear it

KittySpencersEmerald · 18/02/2010 19:29

that is true tulpy.
and purple good for green eyes

rl mate said it shows the detail of the dress off better.

Job done.
