How much would you pay for a handbag (yes, I know it's been done before)

I am currently looking at bags. i tend to have only 2-3 bags ever at one time; one everyday, one for summer and one smaller one if I am going somewhere posh- but the everyday one gets used 95% of the time and usually lasts me 2-3 years.

Have bags got more expensive or have my tastes changed?

It seems as if you can get plastic for up to £50, then nicer leather bags for £100-ish, and more choice in the £100-£250 range. I am not prepared to pay £500 for Mulberry as i think they are a rip off, though a nice rip-off at that.

Gulp. I work so it's my money. But have a nice mulberry for summer and a nice mulberry for winter, along with a brown todds for when am wearing brown. So £500+ a time. But it's kind of 'essential' to have a good bag in my working circles. As i write tho am on hols with a trusty £35 white bag from accessorise which i love as much as it is so well designed.

atm have my eye on one that is £200ish. (ish!) Have been saving birthday/christmas cheques as I feel ok about that, but not out of the family budget iyswim. I'd rather have less stuff but things I really want and have saved for.

Max would be £40

My current bag cost £22 from Next.

Designer handbags have increased in price by 50% in the last 5 years. It's the likes of Grazia that push young people to buy something they feel they must have.

Haven't bought a handbag since 1986, but if I had to, I would go the charity shop route. I have no problem with people spending their own money on lovely bags if that's what they like but I personally dont' like them. I also dislike the v-shaped arm pose that all my student friends have to use with their huge bags, as an 80s kid to me they all look like Mrs Thatcher.
