Bra and Knicker question - do yours match?

Holymoly321 · 18/02/2010 12:28

Basically all of my bras and knickers are black - not matching sets exactly, but they are all black. I'm getting bored of it! And so is DH! But I can't afford lots of different matching sets. Just wondered if it's common practice to have different colour bra and knickers on at same time.

I have knickers in a rainbow of colours and patterns - I've even tie-died knickers! But my bras are all white, cream, or black. I did once go nuts and buy several beautiful bras with matching knickers, but the knickers cost £12+ each, and wore out long before the bras, so I've never done that since.

Besides, matching bra and knickers don't work when you wear, say, dark shirt and pale trousers, or vice-versa, so IMO fairly pointless. Unless your dh enjoys it IYSWIM

displayuntilbestbefore · 18/02/2010 12:35

mine don't match today for the reasons PrettyCandles states - am wearing dark jeans but a white shirt and don't intend to look naff with a black bra under my white top

I get mine in the Debenhams blue cross sales - it's quite amazing the reductions on prices so when I want matching stuff I get it there

Clary · 18/02/2010 12:38

I don't actually like the matching knickers - they are always a bit polyestery and I prefer cotton on my bum!

Also I wear knickers once and bras 2-3 times (slattern) so I would need extra pairs of knickers - and they are £££.

So, er, no, they don't match. Unless I am wearing black cotton knickers and happen to have black bra on. Or ditto skintone. But it's not a match really.

Holymoly321 · 18/02/2010 12:40

so I should just go out and buy loads of new knickers in whatever rainbow colours I fancy and not worry about having bras to match?

OP posts:
displayuntilbestbefore · 18/02/2010 12:42

I don't know why lingerie manufacturers don't make cotton knickers to go with their bras - much more comfy and healthy instead of the nylon frilly things....
Maybe we should start a campaign for more breathable fabrics in the matching sets

psychomum5 · 18/02/2010 12:47

I used to, then I had children who vomited everywhere, including me, and due to hitting tops one day, bottoms another, and having to change so often, the practise got a little hard and now I don;t bother....as long as they are clean and tidy and not full of holes or greying, or the elastic is shoddy, I don;t care anymore.

well, unless dressing up to go out for dinner with DH and away from children and accidents......then I do

Holymoly321 · 18/02/2010 12:48

I'm scared it will just feel weird! Is it normal to have multicolured underwear? I think it must be as most of M&S knicker packs are all different colours!

OP posts:
Holymoly321 · 18/02/2010 12:49

And they don't sell packs of multicoloured bras so women must be wearing different colurs / patterns upstairs and down!

OP posts:
tethersend · 18/02/2010 12:51

Match what?

displayuntilbestbefore · 18/02/2010 12:52

I can't be doing with multi-coloured and patterned knickers.....my arse cries out for sheer understated elegance

alarkaspree · 18/02/2010 12:52

Occasionally they do, usually if all my comfy cotton pants are in the wash and I am forced to wear the frilly ones.

Or if I am feeling especially loving towards dh.

How would it make you feel weird to have them non-matching? Surely you don't spend that much of your day thinking about your underwear?

Holymoly321 · 18/02/2010 12:56

It's just that I'm so used to having all black - just black - that it would be different to not wear it - esp if I was wearing a black bra. It's been my way for the past god-knows-how-many-years, but a time for change has come!

Ah, if you've only ever worn black knickers, then wearing other colours will open you up to a new experience: the Knickers of the Month. Those are the ones that you wear during your Time of the Month. Ie not the white ones, pale ones, expensive ones etc, but the black ones, manky ones, heavily patterned ones, or even the red ones.

Or am I the only one who does this and I'm just weird?

displayuntilbestbefore · 18/02/2010 13:11

My drawers just have black and white and then I have two matching bra and knickers sets, one in a lovely blue and one a gorgeous cranberry colour. That's as coloured as it gets for Mrs Display!

Marks' packs with the patterned and multicolour ones make me cringe....remind me of school changing rooms. You are not missing out chickiolina

WowOoo · 18/02/2010 13:15

Mine used to. Either black or white so was easy! Have never worn nylon stuff - makes me cringe to think of all that itchy lace and they're too hot. (in temperature sense!!)

Now, I'm far more random, colourful and simply am not bothered by it so much.

Prettycandles. No you're not weird! I have what i call 'special pants I no longer love'

mammyknowsbest · 18/02/2010 13:23

Very rarely when I'm out and about doing ordinary mundane housewifey things. I just shove my hand in my small's drawer and wear whatever comes out first !!!!!
However if I'm going on a nice night out and I'm spruced up (trying to look glam) They always match. They make my outfit feel complete !!!!!!

JustAnotherManicMummy · 18/02/2010 13:25

Absolutely. All are now a sort of grey colour with possible risidual baby sick and have seen better days.

When I go back to work I'm blowing first month's pay on nice underwear

apple99 · 18/02/2010 13:27

I have only had black knickers and bras for ages but just last week I got measured in M&S and bought 3 new bras with matching knickers (2 pairs for each bra), all cotton, I think they are Per Una and really nice, weird as I loathe Per Una clothes. I think they also have a £5 off when you spend over £30 at the moment in store.

Pineapplechunks · 18/02/2010 13:32

Everyday knickers and bras, no never, lots of different coloured knickers and either black white or grey, sensible, comfortable, plain cotton M+S bras.

Sex knickers/bras/negligees/babydolls/corsets etc yes, matching sets and virtually never worn for more than a couple of hours.

MumGoneCrazy · 18/02/2010 13:43

I match 90% of the time
I have a drawer under my bed just for my knickers and bras, all french knickers, thongs, shorties, all lacey and frilly, in black, red, bright pink, blue, purple and white.

And hidden away at the back are 5 pairs of black cotton briefs for that certain time of the month.

I collect nice underwear, underwear to me is what shoes and handbags are for some women If i have sexy underwear on then i feel good.

onlyjoinedforoffers · 18/02/2010 13:52

i wear Black pants and Black Bras everyday

Holymoly321 · 18/02/2010 13:58

MumGoneCrazy - I envy you! My best friend is very 'womanly' and spends a fortune on bras - she thinks nothing of paying out £50 for a bra - I would want a whole outfit for that!

OP posts:
Holymoly321 · 18/02/2010 13:58

they are very very beautiful bras tho!

OP posts:
PandaG · 18/02/2010 14:03

everyday, no, generally not. But, holidays, night out, night in , or days when I am not going to be covered in playdough/paint/food then yes.

I love pretty underwear

purplepeony · 18/02/2010 14:40

If you wear black undies all the time what do you do when you wear a white/pale T shirt or top?

I agree that we need to campaign for nice knickers to match nice bras.

I buy M&S bras- usually the ceriso or Autograph range. Sometimes they do nice silk knickers but often they are grotty polyester or scratchy lace which looks nice but won't breathe.
Why can't they do cotton knickers with a nice matching lacy trim?
