No VAT on childrens clothes

Why are so many of us prepared to pay over inflated prices for childrens clothing - is it because we forget/don't realise there's no VAT charged I wonder?? I don't especially 'buy into' brand purchasing anyway but am often utterly astounded at prices, even for non brands, particularly when I can buy my own clothes for the same or often less... any thoughts?

Not to be sucked into buying overpriced kids clothes from the Nexts, Monsoons & Bodens of this world for sure (like that's going to happen)! Each to their own no doubt...
