Please help me find a wedding dress

I'm getting married in June.

I bought my wedding dress a few months ago but since then the wedding has changed dramatically.

Both DP and I felt uncomfortable with a big wedding and have now scaled it down to be as small and casual as possible.

We now only have ten guests. We are getting married early in the morning, then plan to go to the beach for the day, followed by a bbq at dp's parents house.

I am far happier with our new plans but my dress now seems to be far too elaborate for such an informal wedding.

Please can someone help me find a pretty, white summer dress for the wedding? I can change before we go to the beach so it doesn't have to be too casual, but I no longer need a 'wedding' dress.

Ooooh I'll help!

Are you looking for long or short?

Budget?

Definitely white?

globex · 17/02/2010 11:14

Oooh! Your wedding sounds beautiful! I'm kind of in the same boat - I just want a pretty white(ish) dress..

I haven't really had a look yet - was hoping something would appear on the high street.. Online Monsoon have some okay-ish things - would have to be tried on..

Net a porter of course have a great selection - there's a 'minimalist bride' bit with lovely silk shifts etc tec.. Lets see if I can link www.net-a-porter.com/intl/boutiques/wedding/list.nap?SelItem=0%3b9&custom_list=Minimalist_Bride

Anthropologie have some very sweet frocks on their online store but they'd have to be ordered from the States..

Thanks both.

Looking for something pretty and summery that doesn't look like a wedding dress. The dress are net-a-porter are lovely but still far too formal for what I'm looking for.

I don't want anything long because I'm only 5ft 2" so a maxi dress will swamp me.

I'd like something a bit boho/hippie. I like stuff from Joe Brown but nothing on the website is suitable.

I'd prefer white because my dress will be casual and it will be the only thing to differentiate me from the guests.

Not asking for much am I?

Just to add that the wedding is so low key that I'm not looking to spend more than £200 on a dress

I wore this at my very low key registry wedding last August (I then also had a church wedding at everyone else's insistence but that's another story).

Perhaps the designer will have similar stuff? If you like it, that is!

MiaWallace · 17/02/2010 12:20

Thanks for all your hardwork bunnyLebowski, some lovely suggestions.

Your dress is beautiful sayanything but wouldn't suit me.

I think I've found what I was looking for.

Pretty lace dress from River Island - I can't link to it because it just links to the home page

Feels funny buying my wedding dress for £35 but don't suppose it matters if it is what I like.

Is it the 'lace slip dress' in the day dresses section mia?

MiaWallace · 17/02/2010 12:27

Yes that's the one.

Just had a closer look at the Coast dress that you linked to as well. It's really pretty and I'm tempted to go for that instead

What about these......

elegant

pretty

hippy luxe

Katz · 17/02/2010 13:43

debenhams have some nice ones:

long and floaty

short and simple

coast too

strapless

MiaWallace · 17/02/2010 14:08

oooohh so many choices.

I love the long and floaty one, I'm just too short to pull it off.

Think I need to hit the shops and try some on.

Thanks everyone

You could always design your own at Styleshake.com.

That sounds like an advert - I don't work for them, honest
