Preg - need help in finding cardi/top for christening!

Hi there,

Almost 5 months pregnant at the moment and have a christening to go to in March. A friend has given me a black jersey maternity dress - quite dressy, v-neck, below the knee with a lovely satin tie for above the bump.

It's black, so I need something colourful to brighten it up and make it look ok for wearing to a christening.

Can anyone suggest a nice cardi/wrap top, etc that I can wear with the dress please? Do you think wearing a black dress with a brighter top is ok for a christening?

I don't normally wear dresses, so don't want to shell out for a dress I won't wear again!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!!

Are you going to wear the cardie open? So would get away with a non-maternity one?

What colours were you thinking of? How much do you want to spend?

wickedfairy · 16/02/2010 07:57

Hi,

Yes, I would wear it open, so a non maternity one would be fine (ideal actually, as then I could wear it again!). Good point, I should have thought to mention that!!

Not sure what colour though - do you have any suggestions? I have mid-brown hair and am very pale, so don't want to look too washed out with the black - that's why I thought a brighter colour would be good.

Spend-wise - up to about £45 would be fine.

Thanks for your help! I am useless at clothes aand can barely dress myself!!

Ok well here's a few to start off!

This is lovely in the purple

Love this one!

Waterfall type green one

Do you like red?

Wee bit over budget but nice in the red?

Probably a bit much but I love it!

Any of those close?

What about a fur shrug?

Bit dressier than a cardi for a wedding...

BunnyLebowski · 16/02/2010 11:04

Erm it's a christening?

BunnyLebowski · 16/02/2010 11:06

Not bright coloured but v pretty

tethersend · 16/02/2010 11:11

Shit.

I stand by the shrug though, not keen on cardis for formal occasions

i too am pg and if in your positon would simply wear long cardi or coat over dress. am not keen on the little coloured cardi over a black dress combo as it usually takes right away from the dress - which sounds lovely. think a black dress fine for a christening.

Hi again,

Thanks for the suggestions!!

BunnyL - I love the red Phase8 one (even though it's more expensive) and the topshop one is lovely too - not a colour I'd normally go for, but I will try on and see how it looks. The colour may look quite nice with my deathly pallor!

Tethersend - the shrug idea is a good one too - I only thought of a cardi (no imagniation!). After the christening (my niece's) we are going back to my brothers house for food/drink - not sure if it's a bit too dressy for that? Maybe not though! Dress has capped, short sleeves - would ideally like something to cover arms down to elbows, or slightly above (doesn't have to be full arm)but don't want to freeze either!

Anyone have any other ideas?? - doesn't have to be a cardi - you have inspired me :-)

Thanks for the suggestions - I didn't know where to start looking! Keep 'em coming!

I don't believe in 'too dressy'- especially when pregnant

How about this or this?
