House things

I am thinking these are more style questions that good housekeeping ones.

I need some new bed linen. It has to be kingsized with a fitted sheet and matching pillows. No pericale or itchy stuff. My bedroom is painted white with this on the chimney breast and neutral linen blinds. I am not keen on lots of clashing patterns and want something quite simple but can't find anything that looks nice with it.

I als need a new laundry basket. I need a big one to go in a grey and white bathroom with lots of wood panelling but again want something quite simple. They all seem really small?

TIA

We got White Co bedlinen a few years back and I was soooo disappointed with it ... the pillowcases shrank in the wash - not a lot but enough to mean that my pillow which is quite a full, down pillow, has to be squished in which makes it really uncomfortable or else I have to leave the end open with a couple of inches hanging out ... which looks awful. The sheets are always creased ... with four children, I draw the line at ironing my bedlinen .

That said, I drool over their catalogue and have been on the lookout for a replacement set of linen for a year. Maybe I chose badly ... double row cord ... next time I want something with a sateen finish as it launders so much better.

I'm itching to get something new and to 'dress' the bed a bit with extra pillows and a throw. Must have a look at the other websites above now that I've got that off my chest!

Millie I've found their service really good though - did you try sending the pillowcases back for a refund? They've been so helpful to me on the phone at times.

I didn't actually Romanarama ... it's a long story but they were ordered in, say, June, and arrived in dribs and drabs as the items came into stock - over a 3-4 mth period. Then I put them away to use when we moved DS2 out of our room into his own - which was a good 12 months after I ordered them.

I haven't discounted trying them again but am just not sure.

I've just bought some good stuff off ebay, believe it or not. I'm of the white linen only school too, except on kids beds.

Bought a superking 600 thread count Egyptian cotton fitted sheet extra deep (40cm) for £25.20 (free postage), it washed beautifully and is really nice quality - very crisp felling. I bought it from a seller called Duvet & Pillow Warehouse.

I also bought a set of 300 thread count Egyptian cotton sateen bedding (superking duvet and 2 pillowcases). Again, lovely quality, very fast delivery, amazing price and they wash very well. It was £29.99 for a superking set. Genuine Egyptian Cotton Bedlinen Store

I have a set of single row cord bedding for the guest bed from The White Company. It is very ncice but I agree that it creases like a absolute sod. But then, thick cotton does crease, it's a fact of life. I can't say I've noticed shrinkage though.

With regards to keeping whites white, mine are washed only with whites and washed with a brightener sachet every second or third wash.

Thanks NdP - the links look interesting. Am going to sit down tomorrow and get some orders in and see what feels nice when it arrives.

Try TK Maxx. I got 400 thread count cotton sateen fitted sheets, duvet covers and pillow cases at silly prices. All in white... has to be white imo.
