Thick moisturiser needed for scaly forehead! Preferably natural/no chemicals...

I have been using a facial oil and day cream from this range but it's not hitting the spot, and I often have a dry and flaky forehead

I want something equivalent to Aveeno or E45 or Vaseline Intensive Care, but I'd like to find a chemical-free version.

Can anyone recommend a really thick, but not greasy, moisturiser that meets my fussy criteria??

I used to have dry and flaky cheeks... a beautician recommended using a gentle toner before moisturising. I was very sceptical, but gave it a try... surprisingly enough, it worked.

I find Clarins products very good for a sensitive skin. If you want organic (no such thing as chemical-free, as I'm sure you know) maybe try Origins?

I agree with scarletlilybug that you need to look at your whole beauty routine, not jsut the moisturiser.

Gentle exfoliation before moisturising goes a long way towards curing scaly skin.

If it's very scaly, have a word with your GP as you might psoriasis.
otherwise get a tub of aqueous cream, available from any chemist.

It's heavier than a normal water based moisturiser but as greasy as petroleum jelly.

Liz Earle products are organic. Would recommend skin repair moisturiser, also does a polish cleanser with a muslin cloth which is great for gentle exfoliation. Have a website but can't do links [luddite]

I get terrible dry skin that flakes but so far this Winter getting through ok. Have previously tried every expensive brand available at our posh department store. Lancome was ok... Still use their cleanser and toner. Clarins do a fantastic oil that you leave overnight. You use it about once a week I think. If washing I use the Aloe Vera range from Body Shop, their exfoliator is very gentle but with a Roc sensitive skin moisturiser. I tried Origins but came out in a vile rash that lasted 2 days. Very disappointed as hoping they'd be the answer to my skin prayers.

I am not keen on the scent of the night cream but they do an unscented one which is really good and thick but sinks in so is not greasy or shiny (I use that in the day no probs). They also have a therapy range, so you might get on better with one of those

I will peruse the options - think I might go for the Liz Earle cleanser as I've heard so many good things about it, plus one of the moisturisers mentioned.

Dr Hashuka Rose Day Cream. It's quite thick and you don't need much but it really does the trick. A friend bought me a tube after I had DD and I developed scaly dry skin. I bought some for my neighbour who had the same problem and it cured both of us. Now that I'm back to normal I find it a bit too much so I use the Quince day cream instead.

I second Dr Hauschka.

Also Ren rescue balm, I use it as a moisturiser in winter, it's fantastic. £££, but you don't need loads.

Neals Yard. The frankincense healing cream is thick but not greasy.

a derma products here are amazing on dry flaky skin. Made with oats, not chemicals and not too expensive.

A silly thing, but it might be worth trying at night. When I had very dry and scaly skin on my hands, I would either use Liz Earle's superbalm or Lansinoh nipple cream on my bad patches. Did the trick for me - obviously wouldn't work during the day .

Yes yes barefoot botanicals. Absolutely gorgeous and worth every penny.

I used to use the Liz Earle cleanser but changed to this from Akamuti on recommendation from another MNetter. I'm evangelical about it now, it's made a huge difference to my sore, sensitive, flaky skin. Plus I tend to get whiteheads and this has stopped them completely. I only use need moisturiser when the weather is dry or windy now, then I use Dr Hauschka Rose Cream or Waitrose Baby Bottom Butter. On sunny summer days I use Sunsense tinted sunblock and don't need any moisturiser other than that.

I use the hot cloth method with it. Smooth it on (even over the eyelids), leave for about 5 mins. Then dunk a facecloth or muslin into hot water and hold over face to steam a little. Use facecloth to remove the cleanser, the rubbing action will take off the flakes of skin. Then rinse facecloth in cold water and wipe over face again.

you could try going along to lush if you have one near you and asking for such a moisturiser. I think it is all natural stuff and they often do small samples so that you can see if you like it.

Just started trying the Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream new facial moisturiser and it is lush!

Really thick and creamy but goes into skin with hardly any effort, smells lovely and makes skin glowing and soft.

I finally went for the Liz Earle hot cloth polish cleanser, they sent me a free toner too so I've been using that, and the Organic Moisturising Nutritive Extra Rich cream from this company.

Have also been putting a bit of 8 hour cream on my forehead at night.

Only been doing it a few days, but this morning DH said to me 'ooh, your skin looks lovely!' so a success I think!

Have a haircut booked for Tuesday, too, so hopefully I'll get a bit of my old self back at some point soon. V happy Thanks!
