Leather soled boots? Would you re-sole them?

I have some lovely leather-soled boots. But the leather is essentially porous and starting to look a bit rough and I'm worried they'd wear through too quickly. Should I get a thin rubber sole applied? DH has some v smart shoes in the same situation. Why is it that these expensive shoe are leather soled?

I often (huh! before my baby kept me poor) buy Furla boots, which are leather soled. I have had them resoled and reheeled and it's really not changed the look or feel of the shoe (well, except they don't leak now!). DH wears Church's shoes, which always have leather soles. He gets them resoled each year and they last for years. Used to use posh cobbler in the City, but now the bloke in my mum's village does them for a third of the price.

Nothing worse than leaky shoes....

Thank you Bowbluebell. I'm enquire about leather soles for DH's shoes (he works in an office environment) and probably get rubber for me since i'm out and about a lot.
