Ankles and zips in long boots

I have just got 2 pairs of boots delivered, from Toast and from Duo. They both fit fairly well (ie I can get them on!). However, I have quite wide calves and quite thin ankles. The boots sag a bit at the ankle and the zips bend and curve out and in, and rub my ankle when then curve in. I suppose it would look better without so much bagginess at the ankle, but I am more concerned that the boots might chafe my ankles if I wear them all day. I suppose I could wear thick socks inside the lower part of the boot. Any thoughts on this or experience of a similar problem?

am vaguely remembering a thread in which someone got some boots from Office? and had to take them back because the zips did this...

Well, I have looked, but I cannot find that thread.

However, I did try a pair of boots on in the fall with half zips that just cover the ankle. That is to say, the boots are pull-on, but there is a zip on the inside over the ankle that opens just a few cm that enables you to get your foot and ankle in more easily. I am now wondering whether to send the other boots back and get the pull-on-half-zip instead as I have found them in a sale online...

Great shame though, the Talamores were only £40...

Or those stretchy pull on boots ? I hate this problem, there are boots out there which fit wider calves better than others and give a better silhoutte, think its a matter of trying on different makes and styles!

Can you train them to lie the other way using them insert things? And wear thick socks too.

have found the thread now - here - but these boots had zips down the back, so maybe that made a difference...
