Recommend me shoes!

OK, my MIL has given me some money to buy myself new shoes for my birthday. I need some new smart shoes (I don't WOH, but I do volunteer at the local MPs office and, well, you need smart shoes don't you?) I'm thinking a low heel (can't do over about an inch as I have bad hips from spd in my last pregnancy), black, maybe a buckle or laces? Something a bit unusual without being too "look at me, I'm wacky". I have DMs and etnies for casual, I have heeled ankle boots for going out, I need something to bridge the gap. I have £30.

Any ideas?

Something like this perhaps?
this page

Or there are loads of others in the same section.

Would look fab with skirt and tights or smart trousers or jeans - voila!

tethersend · 04/02/2010 21:49

These any good? Or these? These?

What size are you?

Whoops didn't see the bit about being black. There were loads of black ballet style shoes at Next.

Ooh, I like those brogue style ones! Bit out of my price range, but I can look for something similar now I have the idea

I'm shoe size 6. I suppose the shoes could be coloured, I tend to wear a lot of rich purples, greens and blues, and of course black. My style is kind of layered, for example today I was wearing black tights, a simple purple dress just above the knee, a reddy purple poncho thing, a purple scarfy pashmina, some pink and purple beads, black and white etnies (heels would have been much better, but I had stuff to do and bad hips), blue smart wool coat, black leather gloves and grey trilby. I'd say that is my mid level of smartness outfit (today was medical appointment, DD1s dancing lesson, tea in a pub, evening class, quick half then home).

Tomorrow I am at the MPs office in the afternoon, so I will probably wear black pin striped wide leg trousers, probably my dark pinky purple blouse over a white vest (for breastfeeding modesty purposes) and my purple and gold pashmina/scarf. Black socks (if I can find a pair or nick some of DPs) and my scruffy badly fitting fake leather black ballet pump style shoes that badly need replacing will complete the ensemble Maybe a cardi if I can find one without a baby sick stain. I may even put makeup on if I suddenly find myself with time

It's hard to find smart shoes that don't either look like school shoes or old ladies shoes without heels.

I hadn't thought of Next, I have always dismissed them as being too expensive for the likes of me, but after seeing that link, I will check them out I think.

Just over an inch but it's over budget I'm afraid. Might be worth looking in their sale just in case there's anything.

Ooh I quite like this actually and it's better for heel height and budget

patent?

Slight brogue-y feel and nice heel but £10 over budget

these are all brilliant, thanks!
