Why does my mascara always smudge?

I use waterproof mascara to try to avoid this but nothing seems to work!

I don't use a special eye-cream, and I wonder whether my moisturiser makes my eye area too oily...but I put powder on under my eyes before I put mascara on, to try to stop that...

Please help!

think i read somewhere that if you have traces of moisturiser on actual lashes then mascara doesn't stick properly iyswim.
i use a clinique one that washes off with hot water and that doesn't smudge even when i rub my tired leaky eyes. this

In most cases the reason that mascara smudges is because of the eye make-up* remover you use.

A lot of people (especially if you use waterproof mascara) use a slightly oily one. This leaves an oily film on the eyes, even if you wash or cleanse afterwards.

Dermalogica do a good one which is a gel that you rub onto your eyes - here

I use Lancome Bi-Facil which is also non oily.

try simple non oily eye make up remover,it's cheap too. Or switch to blinc mascara and "tube them".
