Man Bag? Mulberry or not Mulberry?

Hi
It's DH 40th in March and he's hinted at a new wallet, that's easy Mulberry one in black but he's also said he likes the East/West Mulberry Man Bag.

Now I do love him dearly but i can't stretch to 500 for a bag for him so I'm looking for good alternatives.

Must be leather, plain in design - any ideas?

Or should me and the children live on baked beans for a month and go for the Mulberry as its' a classic?

Help

I'm a big mulberry fan. Do the kids like baked beans? Spaghetti hoops are cheap to. Tinned potatos maybe? Super noodles?

Am bookmarking because I saw some very nice ones that I looked at for DH and they were aboutn £150 (so good, but not like the Mulberry in terms of expense) but I can't remember where. I will have a think and come back [I did not buy one as DH and I are going away for a romantic birthday weekend and that felt too extravagent on top].

Thanks - I'm big Mulberry fan too and think when he doesn't use it I could so really a joint gift... but still 500 notes for a man bag...

You could try find one in the mulberry outlet.
Just bought this in black for around £330.

I' m also a big Mulberry fan but £500 is a lot. Last Christmas I really wanted the Bayswater bag so my partner gave me £300 worth of vouchers and I put the rest up my self.

Nothing compares with Mulberry for classic British style. Break it down cost per wear.

Alternatively you could look at ebay but I don't think it would feel quite as special....

That's the one I love Snowybaby! Which outlet did you get it from? I'm near Ellesmere Port and I think Dubin have an outlet somewhere?

could he possibly wait until the summer sale do you think? it might be cheaper. Alternatively, my wardrobe does men's bags and they have 20% amex discount code - I think it's amex20 - not sure if it still works though, and if you pay with quidco/paypal that's another 7%, so that should bring it down a little. worth a try anyway

I went to the Cheshire oak outlet. Its very near to ellesmere port. They got lots of man bags the last time I went there. But i will pop in again this friday..will give you a report after i come back.

My DH has been using the same bag, this one in tan leather in small, for years and loves it.

Not the cheapest but well worth it as its lasted so long. He gets compliments from other guys along the lines of 'looks cool' etc because its styled like an old camera or binoculars case!

I have remembered - the ones I saw were in Marks and Spencer of all places. About £130 I think. They were quite bulky but I didn't stop to check if that was just obessive M&S stuffing with tissue or genuine bulkiness.

Admittedly, not the same as Mulberry, but nonetheless nice and a lot more affordable.

GreatOrmondSt · 02/02/2010 14:23

M&S do lovely bags but not the same....A Mulberry will last him forever

Anybody got any suggestions what I can get my partner?

Amy
