Fat Face - again

Went into local store to have a look at the new collection today.

My eyes..... anyone else been in? What the hell is going on? It's either acidly bright unwearable colours, or the most blah beigey colour with equally blah coloured splodges on. Not a thing I would buy, and my wardrobe is rammed full of the stuff from past years.

Fabrics used to be thick and good quality, now it's acrylic or wafer thin cotton.

I am itching to write to them and volunteer my services as a buyer. I'd do it for free.

I agree - I haven't bought anything from there for a year or so now as it's all horrendous.

SixtyFootDoll · 29/01/2010 12:48

Def agree, I used to aspire to buying their stuff when not in the sale.
Now I really dont think it offers good value at all, and the styling - I'm not sure who it is aimed at?

snowpoint · 29/01/2010 12:48

I know it's sad but I'm really disappointed. My core group of shops is dwindling by the week, am getting fed up of White Stuff even, there's only so many cardigan and A line skirt combinations you can own..

SixtyFoot- agree, I looked around and thought I couldn't imagine anyone I know wearing any of the stuff in there. It's too pricey to be for students, yet at 30 and a bit I feel way too old for it.

I found lots of nice stuff in Oasis the other day

snowpoint · 29/01/2010 12:56

Oasis you say... love their Garnet jeans! Not got much else from there though, will have a look..

Even white stuff is bland and samey now imo - I'm struggling to find clothes that I feel are me - bought some french connection and great plains as well as some ted baker bits last year.

chippychippybangbang · 29/01/2010 13:36

Me too - Fat Face and White Stuff were once my staples. Monsoon isn't really me though, and I rarely shop in there. I like Great Plains a lot, but it can be hard to find unless you go online.

There is such a gap in the high street market I think.

OtterInaSkoda · 29/01/2010 13:40

I'm scared to go into Oasis. Do they do size 16? Oddly I am perfectly happy to go into Top Shop - which might be because it's the same branch I went to as a teen and I think I momentarily forget that that was a good 20 years ago...

Fat Face is too beigey dusky pink imo. Always has been.

justallovertheplace · 29/01/2010 13:49

O yes, I had a wander in town today and cou;dn't even go inside based on what I could see from the displays- it all looks hideous. And I too have a wardrobe packed with their stuff from previous years, this is my absolute favourite summer skirt, and is still like new 5 years later. Same with all the other skirts I've bought there. But now, it is all just blah, and our branch seems much emptier than it used to. The pessimist in me thinks that they won't last much longer, sadly.

crankytwanky · 29/01/2010 13:50

I've heard good things about Oasis's new line. Don't have one near me though, except a small concession in Debenhams.

It did all seem a bit lairy in FF t'other day when I went in.

My last few purchases have been from White Stuff, but the sale. New stuff meh, but can't even think about spring ATM.

DH and I bought quite a few bits in FF last year and we have had to return most of the tops as they had tiny holes develop after a couple of months

moodlum · 29/01/2010 13:54

I was in FF yesterday. It wasn't good. In previous years I have found nice skirts at joules (I know, I know), but dear lord their spring collection is vile

I'll have to admit to buying a few things in Fat Face last week which I really like! I bought white shirt, blue top, purple top and jeans.
I also like this cardy and this top.
I like their clothes and think they are good quality so they are certainly getting it right for me!

dottyaboutstripes · 29/01/2010 14:00

justallovertheplace I had that skirt and LOVED it - was gutted when the zip broke and I could no longer wear it. Am not a 14 or I'd be tempted to bid

justallovertheplace · 29/01/2010 14:18

Dotty, I adore it, and after being pregnant and then just fat for the last two summers in a row I am looking forward to wearing it this year I also got a black cord one in the same design that I've been wearing to death over the last month or so. This thread has really got me thinking (sad case that I am) about the time I bought the skirt, I got it as an incentive to lose weight after having dd 5 years ago. I could literally have bought half the shop if I'd had the money, their stuff used to be absolutely lovely. Now there's too many random graphic designs and awful blues and oranges.

SixtyFootDoll · 29/01/2010 14:58

otter Oasis do a 16 and their sizes are generous too.
I am normally a 12 but was a 10 in Oasis - love them even more!!!

OtterInaSkoda · 29/01/2010 15:41

Thank you, 60ft. I feel brave enough to venture inside. Who knows - I might fit into a 14!

MorrisZapp · 29/01/2010 15:53

I too have some 'vintage' Fat Face that I live in all summer long. But each year just brings fresh disappointment doesn't it.

They don't even do decent knee length denim skirts any more.

Who are they trying to appeal to? God knows.

And as for Joules, yup, just present the same old guff in 'new' colours and call it 'this seasons collection, just in!'.

chippychippybangbang · 29/01/2010 15:54

I used to have lots of pretty FF skirts too. And their colours used to be spot on. Those bright greens, royal blues and oranges are so horrible, I can't think who they'd suit.

White stuff may be a bit samey but I think they get it right with the colours generally.

Now Joules, wtf?? Is their market purely Sloaney horsey people these days?? Far too much branding on it all too.

I quite like Kew, but that can be a bit dull if you're not after basics..

GeorginaWorsley · 29/01/2010 18:21

Agree re Fat Face's summer collection.
As has been said, usually find a dress or tunic that I like.
White stuff great for summer dresses and tunics though, also knitwear, but trousers too long for me.
Noa Noa lovely, but no stand alone shops up here, nearest is 15o miles away in York!
I like Kew knitwear, but their dresses can be expensive.
Warehouse have nice silk dresses, oasis too this year, and have seen a tea dress I like in Dorothy Perkins.
