DD3 is a beautiful redhead. Just having a clear out of older DD's clothes (both blonde). Can little redheads wear red and pink?

My older DD'S are both blonde and their wardrobes are filled with red and pink. We have friends having twin girls so I am having a big clearout for them and wondering what to keep for DD3.

She has dark red hair but not too pale colouring. She looks lovely in blue/green/yellow but I'm wondering whether to keep a lot of the pinks and reds.

Any thoughts? If you are redheaded would you wear pink and red? Does it have to be a certain shade?

my dd has gorgeous dark red hair and she wears any colour! she doesnt suit pink as much as she suits green but being the girly girl she is it is hard to persuade her out of it!

i've also got red hair but never wear pink, orange or red! dh is always saying that he thinks some shades of red might suit me but i would just feel strange in them now!

Skegness · 28/01/2010 10:40

I think red and pink can look lovely on red heads.

i would say red is the best colour, but pink can look a bit odd (because it's really orange, the colour of the hair and orange can clash with pink)
green is definitely good too.

think of Annie: she was told to wear red!

My dd has red hair and she often wears red and I think it looks lovely on her. She's not a girly girl so wouldn't really be seen dead in pink but on the odd occasion she has worn it pale / pastle pink looks ok but I wouldn't put her in anything that was a more bold / hot pink.

LackaDAISYcal · 28/01/2010 11:07

try the clothes on her; if she suits it, keep and if not....chuck.

hattyyellow · 28/01/2010 11:10

Thanks all this is really helpful.

A lot of the clothes are 3-4 year old so hard to tell what they will look like as yet. She is only just one and is currently ruddy cheeked, drooly and snotty with a cold and horrendous teething -poor love!

So hard to get a proper idea of what they'd look like when this highly attractive phase passes!

I have similar facial colouring to her despite being blonde not redheaded. I find orangey pinks don't work for me (whereas they did for other DD's who take after DH's colouring) - so might give those away and hang onto the bluer pinks. Reds I fear might not work either apart from if they're broken up with other colours perhaps..

Cheers all!

Red is great on most redheads but tbh I generally try to steer my dd away from pink. Luckily when she was little red was her favourite colour so I had a good excuse not to buy pink (which I never wear myself). She has gone through phases of wanting pink and I let her wear pink when she wants to now but I rarely buy her pink things myself. Lilac is a good compromise if they want to look girly IMO.

hattyyellow · 28/01/2010 11:17

Am forgetting that by 3 she will, as several have mentioned, no doubt have discovered pink and refuse to wear anything else. At which point, having given away most of the pink, I will have to replace it in order to keep some kind of peace.

Particulary if she takes after one of her sisters who looks like a "migraine in all pink" today according to DH!

It's so nice at 1 year old when you just decide everything for them without tantrums!

You should keep it. At 3 she wont care what suits her, she'll either like it or not.

Oh for the days when getting dressed wasn't a battle of 'I'm not wearing that' and 'Oh yes you are'. I've got boys I never expected so much fighting over clothes!

DecorHate · 28/01/2010 11:55

potplant, my ds2 is far fussier about what clothes he will wear than dd ever was or probably ever will be. I am gearing up for the battle that will take place when I want to replace his outgrown clothes soon!

skidoodle · 28/01/2010 11:58

Red and pink can look lovely on redheads.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 28/01/2010 12:30

I love red on my bright ginger DS1. He looks lovely in it. Orange looks good too IMO.

Obviously can't comment on pink

doglover · 28/01/2010 13:27

I've 2 dd (aged 11 and 10) with ginger hair and I've never had a problem with them wearing any colour. They're now developing their own style/taste which is quite ecclectic and fun. My younger dd is obsessed with orange and red (clothes/bedroom etc) and these colours really do look stunning on her (plus suit her exuberant personality). They're only little for such a short time, don't agonise over these decisions ....... go for it!

bellissima · 28/01/2010 14:44

My DD2 also a redhead and some of her elder (brunette) sister's clothes just can't be passed down. Not so much red itself but particular shades of bright pink. Also very bright turquoise blue can look flipping awful - although other blues look lovely. DD2 can wear most colours but I did sometimes groan when she was younger and you would walk into baby/toddler girls clothes sections to be met by a sea of pink.

hattyyellow · 28/01/2010 14:49

Thanks so much all, this is really helpful. It seems it depends a lot on the shade and colouring of your baby redhead - I think clashing colours can look great - maybe I should hang onto it and see at the time.

I probably shouldn't have rashly promised our friends with soon-to-be-twin-girls a whole wardrobe worth as I didn't realise quite how much pink and red we have! Might have to pad the bag out with cot blankets .

I am a redhead and wear a lot of red. (Not pink though, but that's personal taste rather than it not suiting me.)

My nearly two year odl daughter has pale red hair, and wears red and pink often. In fact, she is currently watching Peppa Pig doing crafts in a smashing pair of pink dungerees.

timelordvictorious · 28/01/2010 15:00

Or dungarees, even.

PoppityPing · 28/01/2010 15:03

I am a redhead (auburn rather than copper) and wear red and pink, I can wera most reds, but not all pinks, it needs to be a softer pink, and definitely not baby pink imo.

pigsinmud · 28/01/2010 15:07

I've got 2 gingers and they look awful in orange, contrary to the above posts! They look good in green and blue.

Dd1 doesn't look good in pale pink, but that's because she's very pale and it washes her out.

Red looks ok on them both. It changes with the seasons - thay can tolerate paleer colours in the summer when they have freckle overload.
